Dunk after birthing?
    #1673720 - 06/30/03 12:24 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

Im a total fukin newb "except for my failure with a mycoBag". Do I need to dunk immediately after birthing my 8 jars, for like 12 hours? Before putting them in the terrarium. If god willing they even colonize.

Dunking after birthing is not necesary unless your cakes are dry. It seems to be a matter of personal preference.

Soaking between cake flushes is usually a good idea to rehydrate.

My faery godmother dunked 4/12 of her cakes to see what would happen, and is eagerly anticipating the results.

Yeah I looked at the mycotopia dunktek. And it suggests dunking before even the first flush. That was a new one on me so thats why I posted the question. Any further feedback would be appericated.

Like Anaisko said, dunking after birthing is not necessary unless they're dry.  Whatever you want to do dude.  Try it with some and leave the others alone.  Experience is the best teacher

Sometimes if the incubator is really warm the cakes will dry out in certain areas as the other areas are still colonizing...dunking before your first flush is fine if it's necessary. Dunking simply helps keep the cake as moist/saturated as it needs to be...and it really does work well in making a difference in fruit body size and number...

Love & Light,

Boppity

dogs tried dunking one cake. But they read somewhere that people drill holes in there cake to remove them from the jars and the mushrooms always pinned there. So they took a tooth pick and made 4 holes in top and about 6 holes in the side about 1 inche from the bottom. Then they birthed the cakes and dunked them for about an hour to let moisture in the holes. They put casing layer 50/50 on the top of the cake and surrounded the cake on the sides up to the holes they put in there. They will let me know how the pin set turns out.
