I need to upgrade to a pc that does 15 psi, this one has a pressure gauge.
Can it handle a few years of commercial use?
Does it come with a trivet?
What do you use between rows of jars?
Any other useful accessories?
Thanks.

Hi,
I suggest your consider buying yourself an All American Pressure Cooker instead. You will keep it for life if you take good cake of it.

I have had my 23q presto for over five years now with clocking in alot of hours on it and have only needed to replace the sealing ring once. After all those years of abuse has warped the bottom and it is difficult to level it sometimes. I dont use anything to space my jars. Walmart has 16q presto i think, and it is the same width just a little shorter and probably cheaper and it holds 7 quart jars just like the 23q standing them up right.
It comes with a trivet.
No accessories that i know of.
All American is the way to go if you have the money for it.

I used my p23 a lot, works great. Then I got an All American, and I use that now. AA is better, but Presto is good. Like VW vs Mercedes, y'know?

Thanks for the feedback.
Have to save some money to make a flowhood
so I might still opt for the presto as long as it lasts 2 years its cool.

Read and follow the directions to help prolong the life of the gasket. But a new gasket is just $10 at Ace, it's not a huge problem to replace it.

I've had mine for a bit over a year and more recently have been doing 2 runs a day 4 days a week without any issues, it should hold up a couple years of sustained use. They do come with a trivet. I use jar lids as spacers when needed. The only thing that has ever been problematic is the handles loosen with use, but you just have to tighten the screws that attach them to the PC. I usually run 10 1-quart jars or 6 1-quarts plus a 1 gallon jar. Hope it works well for you!

In agreement that it will probably last but like the earlier poster mentioned they do warp easy, I used mine for 3 years probably once a week and it is a pretty warped beast now and has been downgraded to grain steeper straw pasturiser. If you can find the cash the All Americans Rock and the 30 quart does 14 jars at time. Slart

3 weeks ago got my AA-925 for $20. Kept an eye open on Kijiji and advertised on local community boards. Its shiny new. I feel lucky ... but then I gave a similar one away to a thrift store before I started this habit (hobby??)

Alright, consensus seems to be that it will last a couple of years.
Will it work on a 10 wick kerosene stove?
We don't have gas!!!

Found this site has info about wick stoves, the author recommends 16 wick stove for big pots. No experience myself, but hopefully the info helps. Good Luck with everything Darkman!

Wow, you should feel lucky! Great deal...
I've been using 2 23qt Prestos at least once a week (usually twice) for over 2 years and they look great! No warping to speak of. Keep the gaskets lubricated and they will last very well. I like that they aren't as heavy duty as the AA, since I have to lug them from garage, to stove, to lab all the time.

I know! I'm now keeping my eyes peeled for turkey fryer (~$70 at Wally's) or an outdoor gas stove with a substantial stand. Maybe my luck will hold ...

Yes, boycott walmart and buy American or don't bitch when it's your job lost to the chinese, who are masters at making things 'cheap' but have no clue how to build a quality product that will last. An AA is a fraction of the price of a chinese piece of shit when you consider it will last for generations. RR

Close to all, if not all shipping container in the world are built in China. The price is impossible to compete with. It is the same for retorts. A new double door Chinese retort can be purchased for 12,000. In the US I would guess the cost would be 80,000 to 100,000. Fortunately, All American pressure cookers are affordable and produced in mass. A new once used 20 foot container can be purchased for 3000 or less on the west coast. They have a 10 to 15 years life span.
It is not worth sending them back to China to reload because they would mostly be empty and the shipping cost are too high. They are piling up.
The pesto is junk and will not last as a sterilizer.

Thanks for the link. Don't have access to those types, but this shows me that the 10 wick will probably work fine.Quote:

I actually thought Presto was an American brand!! My bad.
I agree with you entirely but my bottle-neck is capital:
I can by an AA and have no flowhood or
I can buy the Presto and have a hood.
Besides, the Presto (and hood) will "buy" the AA within a year or so.
Also, I am concerned about the weight of the AA, in a while I'll be hiring a lab assistant, what if he is a tiny
cute chick that cant handle all that weight LOL

If I have learned nothing else in growing mushrooms I have learned you get what you pay for.
I had a cheapo model to start. Upgraded and fell asleep due to sheer exhaustion while I was cooking. Woke up to a house filled with smoke and had to go out and buy another.
You buy what you can afford and then upgrade as your progress. Being self employed over the years I have learned you should ALWAYS look for anything made in the U.S.A and buy that over anything else.
But if you only have a hundred bucks to your name and are still figuring out how to pay rent for the month then you drop the forty on the Chinese made pressure cooker and replace it in six months.
I guess the real secret is keeping at it as at some point you can start to reap the profits and afford some decent equipment.
Pro Tip: Anything that says China on it is not decent equipment.
