IDK if i've ever had one, but i have pressure inside my face and it feels like i can constantly 'hack' up gross shit out of my nasal cavity.. some of the shit i spit out is really thick and weird green/brown color. I'm guessin i have a sinus infection but not sure which sucks because Im going to a festival this weekend.

yeah,
you really have to worry when there are brown specks in the phlegm you cough up.
brown/red specks mean blood.

Go to the doctor ASAP to find out. The weekend is 5 days away ... you have time to see a doctor and get medicine to clear that up before the festival.

If it is a sinus infection it will take the doctor a few minutes to find out, and if so, you will get antibiotics, which will solve your problem in 48 hours hopefully.

why have insurance if you aren't going to go to the doctor and use it to get better?
If you have a shitty time at the festival because of being sick, you'll have nobody to blame but yourself.

drink rediculous amounts of water so that you can snort out the mucus without drying up.
lay down all day
don't take any anti inflammatories. inflammation is your bodies natural defense, if you inhibit it you'll stay sick for longer.
when I do those things I clear up in 2 days. even an ear infection I purged in 2 days.
I personally do not reccomend anti biotics, they are WAY overused and inhibit your bodies natural defenses from developing antibodies for increased immunity in the future.
kids these days are getting allergies and sick in record numbers because people over use anti biotics and never develop proper natural defenses.
anti biotics are the hitch way out, and they just tuck you over in the long run.

I had a sinus infection for a while and thought the same thing. A month later, every morning when I would wake up I'd blow a big pile of pus, with dried blood chunks floating in it, out of my nose and instantly get a splitting headache. The doc said I was lucky the infection didn't spread to my skull. Get on some antibiotics ASAP.

Sinus infections usually don't go away on themselves, or can take 6-10 weeks to fight off, if not longer. The pain from a sinus infection is not fun, and can also result in a ear infection as well.

I cleared up my last sinus / ear infection in 2 days.
biggest thing is to drink water and blow your nose constantly.
if you dry up you won't be able to snort out the virus and it will linger
its very easy to dry up and get dehydrated from blowing your nose. so you really have to drink rediculous amounts of water.
as long as that nose faucet is running strong with blown out mucus, you're on the road to getting better fast.

How do you know you actually had a sinus/ear infection, and not a common cold?
It is hard to tell in many cases, only a doctor can tell for sure.

common cold often affects the sinuses and often IS a sinus infection, it can infect your ears too.
IMO doctors are in the business of perscribing things so they prescribe unessecary meds all the time.
often those meds actually make things worse, for example, they often reccomend an anti inflammatory which directly inhibits your.bodies natural defense.
doctors are in the business of making money from you being sick, they have all kinds if incentives to perscribe you unnecessary, or even harmful meds.
I have a healthy mistrust of doctors and so far it has served me well. I always get better faster naturally than people I know who always take meds.
when you do it the natural way you also don't get sick as often in general because you have stronger immunity.
you're literally more highly evolved and adapted.
over use of meds literally inhibits evolution.

Not all doctors prescribe drugs just to prescribe them. Many doctors will prescribe drugs only if you need them, otherwise they will tell you to just go home and tough it out.
And many medicines do what they are supposed to do and make life better for people.
Don't be such an extremist when it comes to modern medicine and doctors, there's a reason people live so much longer than they used to before modern medicine.

I have a healthy skepticism of docs.
IMO many people take an extreme amount of meds, and put an extreme amount of trust in docs.
sure many docs might be well intentioned, but have you heard that saying "when you have a hammer everything looks like a nail?". docs are so used to just prescribing meds that they overdo it. they also get kickbacks from phamesuducal companies so they have incentive to over perscribe.
how do you explain that I get over infections faster than people I know who take meds and anti biotics?

Sinus infection is bacterial, and antibiotics will help, Common colds are virus infections and can only be fought off by your own body. I agree, I don't believe in running to the doctor for everything, but sometimes they can help.

Rinse with salt water, even if the symptoms disappear, otherwise it could return.

that's the way you do it, but just remember to replace the water you snort out. if you don't feel like blowing any more you might just be drying out.

and

our society over uses antibiotics and it leads to immuno deficiencies.
humans are not supposed to be do clean, were supposed to be exposed to a lot of dirt and bactetia, its part of how we evolve.
Anti biotics literally reverse evolution.
go ahead though if you really want to dilute your gene pool.

On the other hand, diseases like Crohn's Disease (which I have) are auto-immune diseases, meaning the immune system is overly active and attacks the body itself.
In those cases, anti-inflammatories will save your life. If you have an auto-immune disease, there is no chance of having immuno-deficiencies.

ya there are legit uses for anti inflamnatories, but IMO they are most often over used and a detriment.
try reading that hygiene hypothesis link, some researchers think chrons disease is caused by over use of anti biotics during development...

the theory is that your body isn't as exposed to bacteria which make your body develop proper immuno function, and causes it to develop allergies to more common stomach flora.
much the way that over use of anti bacterial soap is associsted with increased allergies in kids in that study I linked.
immuno deficiencies caused by hyper hygiene can also affect genes over time and could even make offspring more vulnerable so it could be both!
