NASA studies man who lives on ONLY water and light.

That is really odd. I would even classify it as paranormal ( not necessarily unexplainable ). How does he do it? Does he just have enough mind control over his body as to slow down his metabolism.

And if this is true, I wonder how much this may possibly extend your life. A study published probably around a year ago equated a reduced caloric intake with longevity. It can't get any more reduced than that.

There is nothing odd or paranormal about surviving only on liquids, as long as the liquids contain all the nutrients the body needs to stay alive.

The only strange claim is that sunlight absorbed through the eyes is this man's main food. A simple calculation shows that this claim is false. Sunlight delivers about 800 watts of energy per square meter at the surface of our planet. A human brain uses about 20 watts of energy to operate. That corresponds to an absorber area of 250 square centimeters, which translated to pupil size means that his pupils need to be dilated until they are 12.6 centimeters across. Surely they would have mentioned such an extreme pupil dilation in the article if it had actually occurred.

This is just a version of the old cult of "breatharianism". It's very entertaining and funny to read about these wackos until you get to the stories where people actually starve themselves to death.

In the article NASA verified he survived 120 days on only water. I don't think that water has enough nutrients to keep someone alive for that long.

I agree. I bet he lost a lot of weight. And the article doesn't say why he stopped. Perhaps the weather got too cloudy?

They were talking about this over in off-topic, and someone came up with another more indepth link.

For those interested.

"All you need to do is learn to absorb from the primary source of solar energy."
Oh, is that ALL? Making something sound simple hardly makes it simple.

All you need to do is take a walk barefoot for about 40 to 45 minutes in the sun everyday to recharge the energy.
I guess those barefoot kids starving to death in Africa don't get enough sun.

But more importantly you develop a corona of energy around you. As this energy field becomes stronger, diseases don't harm you. Even your worst enemy will become harmless."
I will wager BIG MONEY that I could kick ANYONE's ass after they did a 200 day fast.

We don't even use 10 per cent of it (the brain). In fact, enlightenment in spiritual terms is nothing but 100 per cent use of the brain!
Not true. Everyone uses 100% of their brain.

Yeah, I agree with you Swami, everything that guy said about the way he does it is bullshit. The 10% thing especially.

But the fact remains he did it, and even though he may be wrong about the means, he still accomplished something I thought impossible.

Edit - Improbable

I'm not a strong believer in the supposed "norms" of physical possiblity commonly held... I've done some crazy shit with my body and it keeps coming back. its like if you aren't thinking about it, you really need less food. those kids in africa just don't have anything besides running and football to distract them from the whole hunger thing.

Everyone uses a different percentage of their brain at different times during different activities.

not at the same time.

And yer point is? It is not possible nor necessary. All neurons firing simultaneously is likely to result in an epileptic-type fit, not super- human genius and paranormal powers.

Of all the accounts I've read, most breatharians have a tiny bit of food that they eat on rare occasions. It would be possible for them to survive, but they'd be extremely unhealthy.
