One thing I've never really been able to describe until now, is the thought that what if all things were made of conciousness - the trees, birds, whatever - all the result of conciousness somewhere.
It's like playing a new video game with a bazillion features - when you first pick it up, you're like an amoeba (sp) - one cell, level 1, with no special abilities. As you evolve your conciousness you develop newer and better abilities. I read something in a book that once that said that the first organisms to detect light were merely a few cells clumped together, and that the "eye" cell would pickup changes in light - on or off. What if the conciousness of this organism was just learning how to play in the world of matter, and that after it developed a few different ways to perceive reality, it began evolving into infitely complex beings - each with their own unique attributes passed on throughout time. Common traits developed, natural selection did it's thing, and underneath it all conciousness, the eternal mystery lays within the clutches of your brain, forever driving the human race to greater, more advanced achievements.
Without ears, the concept of sound is (no pun intended) unheard of. Sound is but a vibration caused by moving particles - matter is everywhere - however dense, and when you lift your feet off the ground you're actually just shifting everything that exists into different configurations. Action / Reaction. Cause and effect. Are we simply the effect of our conciousness?
--------------------------- Main Entry: con?scious?ness Pronunciation: -n&s Function: noun Date: 1632 1 a : the quality or state of being aware especially of something within oneself b : the state or fact of being conscious of an external object, state, or fact c : AWARENESS; especially : concern for some social or political cause 2 : the state of being characterized by sensation, emotion, volition, and thought : MIND 3 : the totality of conscious states of an individual 4 : the normal state of conscious life 5 : the upper level of mental life of which the person is aware as contrasted with unconscious processes
We know how to define it, we understand what it does, but is it just the random (or pre-determined) firing of synapsis? Processing things like which color the traffic light is or what way do you turn the tap to make water come out - these things could not be focused (sp?) on without the suppression of other, common processes. Is it possible to delve into the deep reaches of our (sub)conciouss, and tap into things long forgotten? Could we be discovering new ways to perceive reality?
Maybe it's the talking, but sometimes I just sit and trip out on that, even while sober.
-------------------- No one knows the worth of innocence till he knows it is gone forever, and that money can't buy it back. Not the saint, but the sinner that repenteth, is he to whom the full length and breadth, and height and depth, of life's meaning is revealed. Good and evil loose all objective meaning and are seen as equally necessary and contrasting elements in the masterpiece that is the universe.
