half colonized jars
    #1671304 - 06/29/03 01:13 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

I've got half colonized jars of millet and wbs I think they are not gonna carry on colonizing because 50% of grains are exploded when boiling so;may I use the colonized part for casing or do I have to wait 'till full colonization when I succeed it anyway

It would be unwise to case uncolonised wbs. Even if you remove the uncolonised areas, they are still prone to contamination.

Rather than birth them early, try to find the source of their stalling. Try flipping your jars. They may have stalled from lack of air exchange.

But what, if my grains stalled because of explosion during boiling ,
is it possible for exploded grains to colonize?

The mycelium uses the grain for nutrients. Provided they are still nutritious, your mycelium will consume it.

Mycelium will often stall for several reasons.

Temperature is out of range.

Moisture is out of range.

Lack of air exchange.

Contamination.

At this point assume it is stalled from a lack of air exchange. Co2 is a heavy gas and will collect at the bottom of your jars. Flipping your jars will promote better gas rotation.

maybe tell your mom to feed the birds again.
his last stall was ended  from his mother ,by feeding the birds with some stalled jars .and then they start to work again

cause of exploded kernels the lack of nutrient seems more posibble.
imo first try to do what ai said.
if nothing changes give them some poo.
try camel poo .maybe the elephant poo for your orissias.

I have access to a large local  zoo and have had the opportunity to try exotic manures from elephants, giraffes,  rhinos and a few other non-native animals.

The differences in cultivation yield were marginal and none seemed to have advantage over your typical cow manure.

I did have the same thing happen and was advised to flip them.
IT WORKED! I didn't think it would since the birdseed looked so thick for any air exchange but the shroomites know their shit and it did work.
Try it first. It won't hurt to wait a few days anyways...

As Ainasko mentioned, the mycellium uses grain for nutrients. The only problem about exploded kernels (as i know off....) is that they get contaminated easier. Shaking the jars could be a solution to see if they'll work. Another point may be that they're out of nutrients inside the jar.... Use one of the jars to innoculate poo verm substrate. If they start to colonize in normal speed again, then it's the lack of nutrients!
