Becarefull there. Im no electrical engineer, but you might be able to hurt yourself with a 9-volt. Any advice for this brave soul? ? ?

yes nine volts is WAY too much for your head. you don't need to do anything more than putting a quartz crystal near your third eye if you need a voltage boost

well, transdermal application of squarewaves shouldn't actually deliver too much voltage into the actual brain tissue... i wonder if the effect could be facilitated by riding the low-frequency pulses on top of a 40kHz carrier... ummmm, electrodes --- well, a couple of nice _silver_ dimes would work well, and for electrode paste, well, toothpaste gel works great... my chief worry would be having the pulses be polarizing... must be some way to have the pulses spend equal time above and below zero potential (maybe use the 4049 to drive an op amp with a split power supply?)

Any other thoughts anybody? I plan on making one of these in the next few days. I'll try and give a full report once it's built and tested, but I'm not hoping for anything too radical from it. But it would be cool if it did work, given that it only costs a few dollars to make.

I'd say it already does, wouldn't you? And what's the danger you perceive?

Well I made it today, and it works!
Cost of the parts was a few dollars. Time to build: about an hour (much less if you're a competent solderer). You can test it easily by putting an ordinary LED across the contacts, this will allow you to judge the frequency too. Without any accurate way of measuring frequency, I'd judge the frequency range to be from about 2 Hz to 50 Hz, perhaps more or less (impossible to judge by eye). I'm running it off a variable voltage plug pack (3, 4.5, 6, 7.5, 9, 12 volts). So I made some cotton sleeves for the contacts and moistened them with very salty water, and put them against my head, by the ends of my eyebrows. Let me tell you, the effect of this thing is pretty unmistakable. It's like a weak strobe light is behind you. Your vision flashes in time with the pulses, eyes open or closed. I had the plugpack set to 6V at first, then turned it down to 4.5V and the effect is still quite strong. If it's turned up too high then your muscles in the vicinity of the contacts start going nuts. Moving the contacts further away from your eyes reduces the visual effects. I haven't used it long enough (yet) to notice any brainwave entrainment effects, but I'll give it a proper go soon.
If you're thinking about building one, then don't think a) it's hard to build, b) it's expensive, or c) it doesn't do anything, because that's just not the case. I have quite a lot more testing to do before I can find whether this device has any real value.

Cool! Where'd you get the IC's from? I went to Radio Shack, and they said they don't carry hex inverters anymore. Can't really say it suprises me.
Guess I'll have to hit up a real electronics store during the week.

Oh boy! You guys really wanna have some fun using electronics for tinkering with your brains?
SHAKTI!
Applying magnetic signals for consciousness exploration, spiritual growth, altered-state experience, and learning brain structure and function.
Out-of Body Experiences, Remote viewing, and more.
Shakti LITE can induce induce spiritual experiences and transformation for many people when used according to instructions. It's also a powerful tool for consciousness exploration. And you dont have to apply any electric current directly to your head!
http://www.innerworlds.50megs.com/shakti_lite/
im sure some of you have heard if this. mine's comin in the mail sometime this week.
also check out http://www.voodoomachine.com/ if you are into actuall electric current being shot into your head.

Havent got it yet, it will probably be the beginning of next week. I post my findings here of course. Meanwhile, im gonna go take an electro magnetic pulse bath to try and get rid of all these damn little goverment issue nanobots that are crawling all over me. Little bastards are hard to terminate!

I don't think any one has posted this in this thread yet, www.voodoomachine.com <--Same thing, but I hear it's hype, the "gel" you put inbetween skin and the sensors is thought to have chemicals that are absorbed through the skin, since it isn't approved by the FDA. But I don't know. -Mr.Sleep

Yeah, I mentioned the voodoo magick box in my first post on this thread. I ordered one when they were first introduced, waited like 6 weeks and was kinda let down. The most ive gotten from it is a feeling of being really heavy coupled with a small decrease in ability to walk, similar to consuming a couple beers. Nothing really impressive though. The effect itself is caused by whats called cranial-electrical-stimulation, or CES. More CES devices can be found at http://www.welnesstools.com. All the gel does is give the electrodes better contact with your skin. *Edited for silly spelling mistakes*

Im pretty sure the gell isnt drugged or anything. As soon as i remove the electrodes, the effects cease. And when the machine is turned on full power, i can feel the jolts in my head. The jolts even cause a brief flash in my visual field.
Heres some pics of the gel.

put it on your left temple you can scramble electric magnetic pulses and your thinking will become clearer and more observant just like a savant i think you leave it there for about 40 mins
