black dots

I keep getting black dots all over my popcorn jars. I was getting no contams but now every print i make seems contamed. I'm using the bulk neglect tek so that might have to do alittle with it. But the thing that confuses me is that if i dotn pc the jars right away they contam also but if I pc the jars their fine until i innoculate them. Always the same contam. I'm making my prints by wipping tinfoil with alchol and convering with a glass that is also steralized. Any ideas how to stop this? I ordered some syringes but I'm eventually going to need to be able to make prints again.

Popcorn may be to hard of a substrate, you might not be able to get all the possible contam spores out of the inside of the grain even with pressure cooking. Just stick to the proven methods dude. Use Birdseed or Rye instead of Popcorn.

Use a glove box to make the prints and/or the syringes.

I dont think its the popcorn becuase i've used popcorn for a while now with no problems. I never needed a glove box before but i guess it wouldnt hurt.

Again with black dots, new jars, new syringes, i'm about to give up, what would be the difference with rye compared to popcorn to prevent contams?

as long as you properly sterilized it, doesnt matter.
rye does contaminate with bacteria, a forewarning :eyemouth:

I find popcorn less prone to contams, you should check out some teks.
I don't know how you prepare the rye but popcorn is basically letting it soak for a day, boil in slow flame for an hour, drain , fill jars and PC them. At least that's how i used to do it.

Popcorn was duing great for me I. but instead of soaking it I pc it and then put in jars and pc them. But I've made 5 or 6 sets of jars all getting black dots. I dont know whats causing it.

Soak the popcorn for 24 hours, do it in some bleach:water solution.

1 portion of bleach to 100 portions of water would be ok.

For some reason popcorn does not want to work anymore for me. I used a glove box, soaked it, new syringes, anything I can think of. Its weird becuase if I pc the jars and let them sit without innoculating them no problems but once innoculated 3 days later allitle white and alot more black dots. I was thinking about going back to vermaculite and rice flour. I mean could the syringes somehow get contamed in the fridge? Their in a zip lock. I have no clue. Moving to a new place in 2 weeks maybe that'll be the solution. Anymore ideas would be appreciated though.

I have and have done them succesfully but I ordered new syringes to try and eliminate any questions with them. The black dots have occured with the new syringes.

errrrm how big are these black dots...and do they grow at all? Just a thought that it just might be clumping of spores if they are tiny black dots and dont grow at all. Sorry if this is obvious...dont mean to be stupid.

No their a contam, they take over the jar. I wish they just where spores. I've all but given up if the basics dont work then i'm done.

maybe try adding a few ml's of h2o2/water solution 1:10 ratio to your jars via syringe after PCing...shake, then innoc with liquid mycellium culture....or try doing some honey water mycellium growth and innocing with that and see if there are still contams. Just DONT GIVE UP! Patience grasshopper!

well its a layemns agar for deciding if syringes are contaminated and such...also gives your jars a boost cause the mycellium colonizes quicker then straight spores do.
