i use a two person tent becase i like a tent i can put up on my own, but if you always camp with others then you need to figure out what the average amount of people are, or have a back up tent. I dont use a tent anymore btw but i have one with me. I have a "shell" that goes on the bed of my truck i just have to take off the tool box. If i had to pick between the two it would be the 3 person one because you should only be sleeping in it and dont need a lot of room.

I say go with the Rocky. It looks easiest to set up yourself and is not overly complicated or expensive. Be sure to buy some silicon sealant and spray the seams & surface good before you take it in  a storm! Better safe than soggy!

I agree it looks like pretty cheap material, doubt it would last long at all.
190T Polyester egh. Any good tent is going to be made with good ripstop nylon and very good ones will have a polyurethane coating.
Desant, coleman tents are trash pretty much. I wouldn't get either of those.

If you want a good quality tent that will last you more than a few uses... you are gonna have to shell out at least a good $150-200 usually (that's in USD)

I have a Marmot Limelight 3 and it's a fantastic tent.
Not the tip-top highest end of the line but it's one of the best in that price range (under 300) and a very excellent multi-season tent.
A good quality tent should be: lightweight, made of high quality/durable materials, easy to setup/pack, very waterproof, breathable (plenty of ventilation), and a full coverage rainfly and vestibule is a must for me.
A top of the line tent can run you $500+ for example - http://www.backcountry.com/msr-carbon-reflex-2-tent-2-person-3-season
But you can pick up a high quality 2-3 man tent for about $200 give or take.

I'm not sure what they carry on that side of the pond, but some of the most trusted and high quality tent brands are: MSR, Marmot, Mountain Hardware, North Face, Bibler, Black Diamond, Kelty, Big Agnes, Easton..

Follow Shroomism's advice. I can personally recommend a 2 man Kelty. Kept us dry during torrential downpours in Cumberland, MD. And definitely, definitely shell out a bit of extra cash for a tent if you want something that will last. Quality gear will not only last, but perform well, keeping you warm, dry, and happy. A lot of those cheap ass tents are a pain in the dick to set up, are not breathable, and become damp quickly. Not to mention they aren't the sturdiest either.

I highly recommend getting something other than coleman.  If you're planning on ever really using your tent a lot, especially in harsher weather, I wouldn't skimp on a tent either.  I'd suggest checking out Mountain Hardware's tents, or MSR Tents.
I've got a Mountain Hardware tent, and I've taken it camping in Big Sur during a heavy rainstorm, 1" a night average and hail, and nothing bled through at all.  I've taken it into the Hoh Rainforest in the Olympic National Park in October during a rain storm of about equal, and it kept me dry as well.
It's stood up to heavy winds that have collapsed other tents without even flexing do to having a 5 pole system rather than a 2 pole system.

This particular tent costs around $700 USD though, so if you don't need an Expedition quality tent they do have 3 season and summer tents available as well.  My tent is the Trango 3.1, they have a Trango 2 on Amazon for under $400.  Again, you really get what you pay for.  The 3.1 is a bit larger than the 2, being for 3 people, however I feel it's much nicer to have the extra space.

A good tent may be somewhat pricey, but you really get what you pay for.  If you spend 70pounds on a tent vs 250, you will notice the difference in sturdiness, and ability to remain waterproof as well.

Yes that's the one I got except the dark green/grey version
I wouldn't say it's the best tent in the world, but it is definitely a really great and very versatile tent,
Easy as fuckballs to setup (I can set it up solo in ~1 minute) and super high quality materials/construction,
great ventilation, withstands torrential downpours with ease while staying bone dry inside, it's at least my most favorite tent I've ever owned.
I shopped around quite a bit at tents in the under 300 range and that's the one I settled on.

There are a lot of great tent manufacturers of which I mentioned some of the most reputable ones.
But like mentioned when it comes to camping gear you usually get what you pay for,
so don't cheap out on your most important items, of which shelter is most definitely number 1 when it comes to survival.
I at least would shop around a bit and look at some other tents you might like, North Face, Mountain Hardware, MSR, Marmot, Kelty all make great ones pretty much.
But that tent at least comes very highly recommended by myself.

In my experience a properly sized heavy duty tarp makes all the difference, can take a cheapo walmart tent and either make a raised ceiling with tarp + rope or stake the tarp down over the tent and have it ready for all seasons

if you're planning on hiking you can use the same method without a tarp if you've got a good bag and not in an area prone to dangerous bugs / snakes / etc...

enjoy your time outside

Tarps SUCK.  I've seen plenty of tarps bleed through.  A good 'sturdy' tarp weighs a ton, it's easier to get a proper tent with a proper rainfly- your advantages are about 1/10th the weight of a heavy duty oiled tarp, perfect conforming to the tent, and no bleed through.

I've been at plenty of gatherings with rain where we had a tarp set up, when it first starts to rain the tarp seems okay, when it starts getting heavy all of a sudden it starts bleeding, then it stops functioning.

Maybe you are thinking of canvas tarps.  I use plastic tarps all the time.  They will never bleed through and weigh almost nothing.  A tarp will never replace a good tent, but I've built shelters out of tarps that kept me comfy and dry through a nighttime of torrential rain.  Personally I wouldn't even waste my time with canvas tarps.

But yeah, a good tent trumps all.  I've just never bought one for car camping.  I have a good backpacking tent but when I'm car camping I sleep in the back of my truck or on a tarp on the ground.  If weather is gonna get nasty I just use a tarp to keep the rain off me as I sleep.

Hell, my sleeping bag for car camping is so large I can't even use it inside my backpacking tent!  I love my over-sized, super warm and comfy, 13 pound sleeping bag!

Plastic are Okay, (though I've seen poly tarps bleed like crazy) but they don't beat 70D or even 40D Nylon Teffeta PU/SIL.  That stuff can underground 1200" of rain a night and still keep you dry.

Yeah I concur. Maybe those cheap walmart tarps might bleed through, but a quality tarp should not.

I have a 30D silnylon tarp that I use (I think with a coat of polyurethane?) thing is bombproof as far as water goes... and weighs under 2 lbs.
Not cheap though -  http://hennessyhammock.com/catalog/products/hex_rainfly_30d_sylnylon/

You HAVE to get silnylon if you're going to get a tarp.  If you tell someone they can use a tarp, and they're looking at walmart for a tent, they're probably going to get a cheap canvas tarp.  Make sure you explain to them there are different types of tarp, and home depot doesn't sell the right one.  The 'tarp' you're talking about is a rainfly but called a tarp due to the fact that it's made to be used over multiple things.  PU/SIL is what you're talking about.  That's what tent rainflies are made of. 30D isn't bad but I wouldn't trust it in coastal weather.  70D is the ultimate.  Well, the ultimate is like 180D, but that's usually reserved for the floor of a tent.

I've gone to multiple gatherings where the tarps they brought were those shitty blue tarps you buy at home improvement stores or at walmart.  I don't' think I've seen one person bring the proper material tarp yet.
