So I'm going to have to put my dog down pretty soon...
    #16681066 - 08/11/12 09:13 AM (11 years, 10 months ago)

I just want to know what to expect. For those who have gone to the vet and done this, is it painless? Is it traumatic? Is he going to simply just dose off?

My poor dog has been fighting off the end for years, but it's looking like it's finally going to be time. He's a 16 year old yorkie.

He fell down the steps a few days ago and is having seizures every 6 to 8 hours it seems like, and it's killing me having to watch this.

Okay, I want to keep this short and simple... what should I expect when it's time?

I didnt have my first dog until I was in my early teens and hes just now approaching the brink.  Can hardly move around and sleeps all the time.

I dont know what to expect, I just know to expect it. :feelssadman:

Yeah, it's absolutely painless.  Just like drifting into a deep slumber and never waking up.  They inject sodium pentobarbital.  Sometimes they give them ketamine beforehand.  Sodium pentobarbital is used in human euthanasia to.  Sorry 'bout your dog.

Yea... well he's blind now obviously, and he likes to call for me from atop the stairs. I guess he just went too far one day and fell down, and now he's suffering some pretty bad damage.

He moves around find, but I swear he's having seizures. I thought he was going to die in his sleep, so I'm just having a really hard time with this, this isn't how it was supposed to happen.

Anyways I don't want to ruin a perfectly good Saturday, I just want to know how it will be to be in the room with him.

No, I don't see how taking a k-hole would be nice while putting down your dog.

Show some respect to the dog.... don't let your dog live in pain like that, blind, in pain, constant seizures.... dude, go put down your dog. That aint right.

I desire to find ultimate peace in death but expectations that are out of one's control are usually incorrect.

My dog's condition is very up and down, sometimes he's normal, sometimes he's just tired. You don't know me or my dog, don't reply to my thread if you are going to be a fucking jerk.

well I was just thinking about how I would feel and I meant give it to the dog.  It would make me not feel sad at all and any pain for the dog would go away. :/

It really is JAFA.
It is all part of the cycle of life; the memories are what you received from the experience. Enjoy and rejoice in the happiness recollected.

... and buy another pup to train. The relationship between man and dog is special than anything else I've experienced. I have a german shepard and he is 4 years old, raised him from 6 weeks and he is my boy. Doesn't mean I don't remember Bear, :shrug2:.

I wish you peace.

You're the type of drug user I  at, the guy is obviously going through a hard time and asking for advice and the only thing you can say is something stupid about drugs as if they fix every single problem in this world.  Sorry OP I realy feel for ya, my cat died of old age a few months ago and she died in my lap before we could get her to the vet to be put down.  I was upset about it for weeks afterwards but now that has passed and I just try and remember the 13 or so years I had her for and all the good times.
