The Dead @ Jones Beach
    #1668066 - 06/27/03 08:30 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

Well tickets go on sale tomorrow morning - I figured b/c I have $80 worth of ticketmaster money - I have to use it at a box office so I need to wake up and get dressed and head over there and then go to my lil bro's grad. ceremony. I figured I'll try for 1st night tickets - I don't care WHERE I'm sitting - I'll still be as happy as a pig in shit knowing that I'm seeing the dead!!! I hope a few shroomerites are planning to attend - I would LOVE to meet up with a few. I always feel left out at these concerts where everyone seems to know each other - and I know ... myself.

Good luck tomorrow if you are getting tickets.

woohooo!! I got my tickets for Sunday night's show. I'm SOOOOO excited. We gotta do a meet up - I'm so excited - it's my first Dead show. JohnB's too!! I hate ticketmaster though - i went to the box office at Tower Records (two stupid morons running it) and made some friends with the people on the line. What a diverse crowd!!!! The guy infront of me told me he got 15 hours of sleep in the past 3 days... hrm... the guy behind me is a Tori Amos fan (yay)... and the woman behind him is like... from some foriegn country. Fun though. Then this old guy came in from NYC to get tickets at the box office by me and the guy infront of me told me that the old man is at EVERY dead show... it was cool as hell - i'm pumped b/c dead fans seem to be REALLY friendly people.

Deadheads ....Hmmmmmm

I guess it's hard to describe deadheads because I believe it to be a state of mind, were not cut from one mold we cross all walks of life! Doctors, professionals, clerks, the guy in the video store, no cab drivers though, I'm not sure why

For the most part the average deadhead is enlightened, intelligent, respectful, and very peaceful. I've never seen a fight or even an argument at a show.

I love to get to venues early just to interact with what IMHO is the greatest community of like minded people on earth!

Oh and one other thing: most believe that Jerry Garcia was something less than a god but more than a man! I know I do

sorry to stick my nose in here, but for what it's worth . . .

jerry was a guy who hardly ever put his foot in his mouth. miraculous, seems to me.

he seemed to understand his life and work (life's work) as a kind of mission.

he was a gifted musician. he was smart. he was kind but sharp and did not suffer fools . . . much.

did not take himself too seriously.

had faults, some glaring, but he looked cool and had a name like "Jerry Garcia"

wier once said when asked what kept them going all these years (and they still had another 10 or 15 to go),

"sure, intense, burning hatred."

he was a father figure

he was righteous. he was persecuted. and he shall rise again . . . no wait . . . different story.

he was named after Gerome Kern the composer

he tells a story of childhood humiliation in "harrington street" where some teenaged girls cornered him in an alley when he was a boy and made him pull his pants down. they laughed at him and ran off, leaving him with a memory that he would carry with him for the rest of his life.

a guy in high school he didn't know very well taught him his first guitar cords.

I don't know much about Jerry Garcia so please lay down some details. I'd like to understand this guy a little better.

On those special nights when the heavens would open up and that divine loving energy would flow down it usually started with Jerry. Like a big conduite he would dissolve and let the energy flow from above through his fingers to our ears. Linking us all and washing away all barriers till we were all one.

Like a bodhisattva he hung around on this big mudball and edged us on to the light. He wasn't a god or angel but a enlightened man trying to free his brothers and sisters the best way he knew how.

:heart:Thank You Jerry

Jimmy Herring is doing a very nice job on lead guitar though.
