I've never seen eggs like that before.

Don't fret, the six other shots I took were much worse...

weird I wonder what they taste like.... :jimmies:

here's something new! moth or butterfly? It's soft like velvet. It's mouth is really tangled up, it seems like it is suffering. I was tempted to cut these two tangled pieces of its mouth since it's not able to contract it like normal, but I'm no insect doctor so I will let nature take its course

and a grasshopper!

:hehehe: you had to have been there its mouth piece was split in two and one part kept wrapping under its leg and then the other just curled around the other one preventing it from pulling its drinking tube back down. It was just sitting there moving its head up and down trying to open and close it's proboscis I think it will end up dying but we'll see maybe it can get out of it.

It's developing its wings rapidly though they were noticeably much bigger every hour. Biggest moth I've ever seen if it is a moth, seems like it

Its a sphinx moth. That wing pattern + 6 spots on the side = Tobacco hornworm, Manduca sexta (if it had 5 spots it would be M. quinquemaculata).

It is.  The larvae eat Solanaceae like stoners eat doritos.  They used to completely strip my pepper plants before I could catch them.

It's still recovering from the cocoon; maybe it just needs while to figure out where all its body parts are supposed to go.

That makes sense. It did cross my mind, but I couldn't find anything detailed about their process from exiting cocoon to flight. I didn't search very hard though, just decided to let it do its thing. I was close to keeping it in a shoe box for observation but ended up putting it in my pineapple sage bush. Last I saw its wings were incredible... I can't believe they went from nubs to nearly full wings in not even half a day.

I just did a google search on Tobacco hornworm never knew those things turned into something so amazing. I guess I need to start looking hard for more of those things before they infest my tomatoes. I found this one being batted around by my cat underneath a squash leaf.
