:thanx: Amazing creatures. I've never seen anything like it, I bet it's gorging itself with lavender tea straight from the bud :flowers:

That spider must be loving life.

That's awesome  I'm glad you were there to snap some pics and I would have done the same.  Events like that go unnoticed every waking moment as people blindly walk by, oblivious to the epic battles ensuing beneath their faces.

I really like watching the color changing lizards in my backyard fight one another over hunting territory.  Each and every one of them has their own little spot with an imaginary rough outline of where to/where to not step.

Indeed it is a chaotic battle field out there from the tiniest organism to the biggest elephant. It makes me appreciate our place in the web much more when I think about it... some of these creatures have the short end of the stick :goat:

I would permanently have PTSD if I were a pray animal...

Those spiders are really effective they just circle the tip of the cactus in stringy unorganized webs. That fly was barely attached to the web when the spider lunged in and took its first bite then I watched it bounce back and forth biting it over and over until it was just left twitching... huge meal for that tiny spider :hehehe:

What kind of lizards do you have out there? My backyard is full of skinks... they get huge too, foot and a half +. My cats are constantly tormenting them. None of them ever have tails.

Yeah I noticed the lizards here will detach their tail somehow when they get threatened, and it grows back later.  Some of their tails grow back in the wrong way and they end up looking very crooked and useless for the lizard.  There are several types where I live, the most common being the one that can change from green to brown and the other that is a mix of bright shiny neon colors mixed with reflective black.  I only have a pic of the first unfortunately.  Wish I could have my camera handy when the more colorful species comes out.

Yep it's a great survival tool. Drop your tail and it still wriggles around while you escape and the predator focuses on the moving tail. My cats will pick up a lizard and sit there knocking it around all day and they are the main reason none of the lizards I see ever have full grown tails, only ever nubs or nothing hehe. On the plus side all those tails go back into fertilizing my yard/garden.

Beautiful lizard. It looks like an anole... I love those guys, so much personality and energy. I've only seen the brown and green variety in pet stores. I bet the other colors are neat, I see some on google that have a beautiful blue color to them :awesomenod:

Here's some of the skinks around here. We get blue bellies too but I haven't found any in my backyard. If you catch one you can flip them on their backs and rub their bellies and they will fall into a mini coma

Haha, did you catch that first one by surprise hiding in the wood?  It looks like he's a contortionist with his tail being flipped in a weird way.

I caught a glimpse of it while picking turkey tails, and eating them as I picked; immediately thought about salmonella once I saw it curled up in there . It froze momentarily as I slowly opened up its hide out, just enough to snap a pic and then this was the last I saw of it.

Lizard thread? Oh boy!

These geckos are everywhere in my backyard at night, and don't mind me getting close for pictures.

These green/brown lizards in the daytime immediately run from me. This one disappeared right after this picture.

Also, this is pretty off-topic for this thread but I love these little guys so much. Tiny little treefrogs that live in my backyard and make cute chirping sounds like quiet birds.

I did go outside to try to take pictures of the bees on some wild flowers in my backyard, but they flew away while I was struggling with the brightness setting on my phone :frown:

Awesome! Those lizards are beautiful!

No wonder you don't have any bugs around, all the lizards and frogs are eating them

Cute frog too. I've got a love for tree frogs myself.

Here's the common one we have around here. They like to live in the reservoirs of my containers. Very loud boisterous croakers.

And a fuzzy pillar on a plant for topic sake :tongue2:

Years and years ago during the summer time we would always have entire groups of tree frogs stuck on our back patio windows and it was entertaining watching them crawl all around and lick up bugs.  I don't have any idea why they stopped showing up every year.

I used to do the same thing hehe. They're numbers do seem to fluctuate a lot. I still see one or two on my window every now and then during spring/summer nights... they love crawling on windows and getting near the bug infested lights.

I notice that with a lot of creatures. Katydids, praying mantises, various types of spiders and toads/frogs. The toads around here disappeared completely. I don't know why either. Probably a whole bunch of variables... population size and environmental changes are probably big reasons... maybe they are at your neighbors house... found a cool leaky crawl space to inhabit. Possibilities are endless :wetself:

I used to see these guys all the time

haven't seen one for many years.

I used to have a massive bull frog for a pet that lived in a child's pool in my backyard. That thing was awesome. Id come out in the morning and he would just be perched on the fence chilling. He never left my backyard for 3-4 years until one day I took him out to a creek and let him go. I used to put him in my bigger child's pool and swim with him for hours. I loved that thing haha I spent many hours building him little hide outs out of sticks.

He was a big sucker too not to far off from this

That's awesome! Did you use one of those store bought eggsacs and hang it from the plant or was that just naturally occurring? I hardly ever see them around here.

No but that sounds really awesome, I would love to buy some mantis egg sacks to hang around. I rarely see them myself and when I do it's usually in the mouth of a cat.

I've already posted this pic in here but I ran into a whole army of them last year but have yet to see any mature ones since then.

I found the one on the cannabis inside my grow tent but I brought it outside and set it on top of my most mature cola for picture taking  It was very cooperative
