I noticed an aphid infestation on the new growth of a young loquat tree. A lady bug had also noticed this perfect spot to lay some eggs

The next day the lady bug larvae had hatched and in three or four days they had cleaned up the tree and there were no aphids or mealys left. They took care of it all by themselves and were still hungry for more.

Chillin on a pepper.

Bumbler mid takeoff.

I have heard people call these sweat bees, they're really tiny, and never hurt me, so are fun to photograph because there are usually many of them around flowering plants.

Finally, this bugger.

Id kill that last one. I hate those things and around here those eat the leafys in my garden. Especially around this dry time when everything is dying.

That looks like some kind of bush cricket. Nasty critters.

Yes they eat small holes in things, but I have not seen major damage from them, so see no reason to remove them from the one plant I see them on sometimes.
I have seen an increase in spiders, so maybe one of them will take them off my hands, sounds corny but I don't try to harm any living thing.

A flock of domesticated aphids being tended to by a colony of herder ants on my nightshade. I thought herder ants were only in tropical rain forests I guess not. Very cool colony. Last year I was experimenting on some plants. One of the concoctions of feed drew the attention of fly's. A week or so later that pot was infested with ants. I about freaked and almost sprayed the yard until I noticed the ants were pulling out all the fly larvae. 2 days later they were done and gone.
So the ants are now a welcome sight. Then earlier this summer I spotted aphids covering my night shade that had sprouted in my potted basil. Again I almost pulled out some kind of organic spray to kill the fuckers. Then I noticed the ants. They frantically move from aphid to aphid tickling them with their whiskers and feet. Occasionally an aphid releases a little bubble of liquid from its ass and the any quickly slurps it up and moves off to the next liquid ant ass treat.
It's weird because there is not a single aphid on any of my other plants in the garden. The night shade however is covered. One theory I have is that the ass juice contains some sort of active ingrediant that may give the ants a buzz. Maybe it's just nourishment but very strange how it's only on the nightshade plant. Of course my next question's are. Is the juice able to get me high? How much would it take? I wonder if it's sweet? Would it be legal? Who wants to go first?
