The spider's cool but not so much the other guys.
One reason I don't like spraying is it kills the beneficials like spiders. I too enjoy having them in the garden, except at night when I walk face first into their webs.

Australian Redback Spider, Latrodectus hasseltii. It's a relative of the Black Widow from the U.S and the Katipo from New Zealand.

Some type of moth eggs on bridgesii spines, probably White Cabbage moth, Pieris rapae, as they're in season right now. These hatch into caterpillars that can be a problem.

Woah that's a freaky spider I love spiders on my plants but the deadly ones give me chills. I bumped into these black widows in a garden bed underneath a bag of mulch.

and a cool spider carrying its babies

That's a sweet pic of the eggs on the spine. Those look like green lacewing eggs to me.

It woke me up that's for sure. I'm used to them but they still give a fright when half asleep. I've got a pet Huntsman inside my car which I should try and get pics of. It's about 3 inches in diameter, including legs. Harmless furry things they are.
Nice pictures. I admire the Black Widow and that mother and clutch of spiderlings is just cute. A friend on the weekend told me how he squashed a spider and all these little spiders went everywhere. I informed him that some spiders like to carry their young like the one pictured.
@ferrel: Yeah they are. I posted this to reinforce that everything is deadly down here, hoping to scare some tourists away.
Quote:
The redback is one of the few spider species that can be seriously harmful to humans, and its preferred habitat has led it to being responsible for the large majority of serious spider bites in Australia. Predominantly neurotoxic to vertebrates, the venom gives rise to the syndrome of latrodectism in humans; this starts with pain around the bite site, which typically becomes severe and progresses up the bitten limb and persists for over 24 hours. Sweating in localised patches of skin occasionally occurs and is highly indicative of latrodectism. Generalised symptoms of nausea, vomiting, headache, and agitation may also occur and indicate severe poisoning. An antivenom has been available since 1956, and there have been no deaths directly due to redback bites since its introduction.

Well I'll be a son of a bitch! I have two of those living in my house right now, they eat all the bugs that are on the plants brought in from the outdoors. They are also that exact species,is what is weird The bigger one I hand fed one of those abnormally large black flies you very seldom see.I flicked it at him,and he caught it in mid air,I kid you not! Also,no I'm not stoned! I couldn't make shit up this crazy,if you paid me They are harmless, and mine just set in the same place until something disturbs them. I reckon old ferrel detests spiders

lol I love him and I've been calling him Charlie for the past couple months
He's the largest spider I have on my plants but he seems to have 2 smaller siblings of the same species that pop up here and there as well as a large sized hobo spider I've seen on my mandevilla a couple times. Your right Kactus they are very helpful when it comes to getting rid of pests. I watched him catch a fungis nat a couple weeks ago with some serious stealth

What's the problem Ferrel? I know you've been a cultivator for years and I thought you'd know how wonderful spiders are for pest reduction by now
I used to have a heavy case of arachnophobia a few years ago \until I started to get heavily interested in cultivation. Now I see them as the protectors of my babies or my Guardians so to say
