Sprouting! ;)

I was worrying about whether i was correctly growing my plants. Were/Are the variables (light, water, soil...) correct? Well, today when i arrived home from work i was suprised and relieved to find 4 sprouts. Before they sprouted, I gave them some significant 'dark time'. Maybe 15 hours or a little more. Before this happened, i planned on going to Home Depot to purchase a higher powered bulb. Either a 250 HPS or 400 HPS. I then turned back on their artificial lighting and left for 45 minutes and i came back to find more sprouts. 7 in total now.
My questions for this evening are: (i sound like a concerned mother)
1 .Im currently using a 60 Watt bulb for the plants, Will i need to purchase the 250 or 400 HPS bulb later in the growing process? How much later?
2. How close should the plants be to each other without endangering themselves? Some are an inch apart, and some might be a little closer. (not sure have to re-check).
Thanks in advance.
Love and Light.

Cannibas Sativa of Course. I thought it was obvious by the marijuana plant in the subject of the post.
Sorry if that was muddy, or unclear.

I am not sure about lights but my friend bought a few flourecent lights from home depot.
Are the plants in pots? If yes all you gotta worrry about is the plants growing against eachother, or bending, plus its good to give em room.

How many plants? If it is only 2-3 you could use fluoros, but if it is more than that you would have to buy so many fluoros that you could just go buy a HID for about the same price. But if it is your 1st grow and its only a few plants I would just go buy fluoros, you can go to the home depot or a place like it and buy a 15W in a fixture w/ ballast for like 8$. Just get 2-3 of those then buy a compact or two, use PC fans to move air around and your set. Peace.

There is no way a fluro/s will give the same results as a HID.. The End result will be a less bushy plant and a whole lot skinnier and less dense buds..if you are going to cultivate MJ more than once i recomend that you get a HID. The more watts the better.
peace..

Hi all- first post here, so I'll keep it short...SWIM told me that MH lights will keep the internodes short, while HPS lights put out more light per watt. Generally, one could use an HPS for the whole cycle, but SWIM preferes to start the mothers under fluoros, and transfer to an HID as soon as possible. If one is beginning with clones, fluoros may be used to propagate the mothers to keep the electric bill down, but will not produce compact, bushy growth the way a phatty MH will. For starting from seed, it could go either way. SWIM has successfully used both fluoros (can be put right on top of the seeds) and MHs to germinate as (heat source and illumination source). Recommended: use peat-based potting medium rather than soil, as the slightly acidic conditions are less favorable for unwanted microbial growth; water the medium thoroughly with a dilute high-P fert with thiamine (B1) concentrations of about 5 mg/ L (5000 ppm) PRIOR to sowing; seeds can be sown directly in the above medium or may be sprouted using damp paper towels soaked with the above fert mixture plus a few drops of bleach per gallon, in plasic bags, but dont seal them just fold over the top to allow for air exchange; always face the bottom of the seed up so the taproot will not have to expend precious energy righting itself, the same with the cotyledons; seeds may be started en mass by filling a shallow pan with fert-saturated vermiculite and placed in favorable conditions, and the seedling picked out as they are ready. There's my first short post. Think I'll head over to the Pub for a pint...Baraka, y'all! -catfish

aim for 50 watts per sq ft for hps lights for max yeild. so a 250w setup with cover ~5 sq feet of plants. floros can be used for sprouting and a couple leaf sets but go with hps from there. keep the floro within a couple inches of the leaves once they really pop out.
