I'll probably never join the smart phone club. Why do I need an overpriced phone that does 5% of what my computer can at the cost of $30 a month for a data plan AND a contract I'm locked in to? Answer = I don't because I'm smart and realize that my phone is a phone and my computer is a computer.

People with smart phones IMO are pretty dumb in a very ironic way unless you actually use it for business reasons or don't own a computer.

Mine cost $30/month for phone, txt and unlimited data.  And I am in no contract.  It need not be expensive.  If you buy it at the mall like the advertisements tell you, sure you will get ripped.  But there is value out there.

I dont even think of mine as a phone.  I never had a cell phone before I had a smartphone, I dont like talking on the phone.  It replaces many of my electronics and has an array of functions from a remote control for my HTPC to a flashlight.

My android phone cost €59, no contract.
I use wifi when it's available and almost never the mobile data network. Plus, unlike my laptop, it fits in my pocket.

I can read the shroomery in a pub or cafe =)

Laptop carrying bags don't exist, forgot about that. :smirk:

Everyone these days has a smart phone because it's the "cool" thing to do or because "everyone else has one so I might as well". Make up your mind for yourself I say. Everyone I know with smart phones finds some excuse to have it. The saddest I ever heard was "I can play angry birds!".

It's turned the United States into a bunch of whiny babies who can't live without their phones. It's also created an immense rise in motor vehicle accidents I'm sure.

I like how Louis CK puts it.

Everything is amazing right now and nobody is happy. I think the smart phone has been wasted on the biggest piece of shit generation ever. I'm right there with him.

Perhaps you should consider selling your computer, should cover your cell phone bill for a year. :smirk:

But how would I write papers?

They're each useful for their own thing.

I recently used an app called Tasker to set my phone to automatically connect with my car stereo, pull up a map and play a sequence of news podcasts that are downloaded automatically.  :awesome:

Before my smartphone I had to set my computer to download my podcasts.  Then every morning I would connect my mp3 player to my computer and sync my podcasts.  Then I have to dig though my mp3 player to find and play them.

Sure, I can live with out it.  But this is just one of the many ways its has reduced annoyance in my life.

My fiance has one, I used it once to pull up a recipe while she was playing WoW. It took me 4 minutes to load. :awesomenod:

The majority of people use their phones so they can be even bigger facebook whores. That's a fact.

Use it for what you think is worthwhile (if anything) and forget about everyone else, would be my advice.

Nope, download speeds are lol worthy is all. Navigating on smart phones is far more difficult as well. Plus on top of it you don't even get full web pages for 50% of things because they have a shittier mobile version of the website for you.
