Could someone please explain...

The String Theory?

I've looked up stuff on the net but never really come across anything I can completely understand - I figured you guys would be my best bet.

From what I get, strings are the smallest of all matter? Is that it, or is there more to it?

No one knows the worth of innocence till he knows it is gone forever, and that money can't buy it back. Not the saint, but the sinner that repenteth, is he to whom the full length and breadth, and height and depth, of life's meaning is revealed. Good and evil loose all objective meaning and are seen as equally necessary and contrasting elements in the masterpiece that is the universe.

man, you need to read The Elegant Universe (if you haven't already)
it makes understanding String Theory much more manageable for people who are really curious but might not have all the technical knowledge of the foundation of string theory.
i found out about the book because the author (Brian Greene) was the third guest on Conan O'Brien a few years ago... i went and bought it the next day.
