Of course not, but one can certainly form an opinion about another person's character, intelligence, wit, and courtesy by the way in which a person posts on the forums...
If someone likes a particular post, they cant +1 it...
If they don't like it, rating based on it is kinda silly...You'd be writing an awful lot of reviews...and editing them a lot...

I think the only thing I have ever had to go on to give anyone a good rating is by what they post. So obviously it is all based on the posts rather then the poster from this angle.

I've read enough of your posts to be able to form the opinion that you're an incredible whine-ass.

Enlil, What does the law say about making false accusations against someone that isn't true? Don't they call it slander or something?
The law protects freedom of speech. Opinions are not a basis for a defamation suit unless the opinion is such that a reasonable person would believe it is based on facts.

Freedom of speech doesn't include harassment does it? What if you call a police officer a "stupid motherfucking pig" to his face? Does he have any legal grounds to arrest you? Or does that fall under freedom of speech?

Quote:
Verbal abuse is the use of words to cause harm to the person being spoken to. It is difficult to define and may take many forms. Similarly, the harm caused is often difficult to measure. The most commonly understood form is name-calling. Verbal abuse may consist of shouting, insulting, intimidating, threatening, shaming, demeaning, or derogatory language, among other forms of communication.
Perpetrators of verbal abuse often misuse their authority and prey on those in a subordinate position. Victims of verbal abuse are often told they are to blame for the abuser's behavior and reluctant to take action to end the abuse. Verbal abuse may lead to stress, depression, physical ailments, and other damage. http://definitions.uslegal.com/v/verbal-abuse/

I dunno . . . Seems like it is dependent upon jurisdiction you could be arrested for disorderly conduct:
Quote:
A criminal disorderly conduct charge can include action or offenses such as:
Abusive Language Acting in an Unreasonable Manner Altercations in Public Places Boisterous Behavior Creating a Pubic Hazard Creating a Dangerous or Physically Offensive Condition Creating a Disturbance Criminal Defamation Crowding or Jostling People Unnecessarily Crimes Against Public Order Disregarding a lawful order Disorderly Persons Disrupting Religious Services Disturbing the peace Engaging in Illegal Business Fighting Harassment Hazing Inciting Intentionally Causing Inconvenience, Annoying, or Alarm Interfering with Airport Security Interfering with Lawful Activity Loitering Maintaining a Disorderly House Noxious or Unreasonable Smells or Odors Obscene Gestures or Language Obstructing Traffic Panhandling Peeping Public Disruption Public Drunkenness Public Inconvenience Prostitution Refusal to Disperse Refusing to Support your Family Recklessly Creating a Public Risk Resisting Arrest Squatting Threats to Public Safety Trespassing Unlawful Assembly Unreasonable Noise Vandalism Verbal Abuse or Threatening and much more⦠http://www.experiencedcriminallawyers.com/criminal-charges/disorderly-conduct/

Quote:
The fighting-words doctrine was first articulated in Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire, 315 U.S. 568 (1942). Chaplinsky was convicted of violating a New Hampshire statute that prohibited the use of offensive, insulting language toward persons in public places after making several inflammatory comments to a city official. The Court, in upholding the statute as constitutional, set down those famous words:
There are certain well-defined and narrowly limited classes of speech, the prevention and punishment of which have never been thought to raise any constitutional problem. These include the lewd and obscene, the profane, the libelous, and the insulting or "fighting" words β those which by their very utterance inflict injury or tend to incite an immediate breach of the peace. It has been well observed that such utterances are no essential part of any exposition of ideas, and are of such slight social value as a step to truth that any benefit that may be derived from them is clearly outweighed by the social interest in order and morality. http://www.freedomforum.org/templates/document.asp?documentid=13718

This is another example of you looking for bits and pieces that support your thesis...
First Amendment doctrine is convoluted, but cussing someone out is generally protected...And cussing a cop out during a traffic stop certainly is.
I'm not going to go over all of the contours of the "fighting words" doctrine here...it's not relevant to the thread.
In fact...none of this first amendment talk is relevant to this thread.

Exactly. A claim has to be actionable for it to fall into slander/libel territory. While calling you a liar, thief, con artist, etc. is actionable, calling you a fucking scumbag white trash piece of shit is completely kosher.
