Is demonoid dead??

I have not been able to get onto their page for the last few days now. I don't remember reading anything about them getting shut down in recent news. Is anyone else having any trouble with their home page?

this pisses me off, I was gonna make a thread about this too to see if it was just me.... it's the only torrent site I use since this huge gov't crackdown... way too paranoid to use the other sites anymore. Insert tin foil hat smiley face here...

How does a website give you viruses? It was something you downloaded, and later installed, not the website. Demonoid is very, very secure, private and frankly the best IMO. I mean I'm not a fucking virus or computer expert, I just thought that's how viruses worked. Can you get them just from visiting a site?

you can use peer guardian but it is not a fail safe.
A virtual private network (VPN) is pretty much the safest, you can get on one for about $10 a month.
my best bit of advice, would be to have you know that its not usually downloading that will get you a copyright infringement notice, it is uploading. IIRC, They need to see information coming out of your computer, not going in. There is a program called Bitthief, it is a torrent client, like utorrent, except it goes against the most basic dynamics of file sharing. You do not upload any content whatsoever. In reality, this makes you a scumfuck for taking and not giving back, but these are sketchy times and i have had contstant trouble with btguard and peerguardian, My ISP throttled my connection, so i switched up and had to rethink my practices.
If you dont get bitthief, you can do a little tweaking on utorrent. It will not let you set your upload limit to nothing, but you can go to preferences and set your global upload rate to "1", it will probably already be set to "0", don't let that confuse you, "0" means unlimited, so 1 is actually the lowest setting.

Dunno bro. I'm not a computer wizard but I kept getting a similar virus. Over time, I realized it would appear close in time to visiting demonoid. It was a really nasty one too. Just to show I'm not delusional, this dude had the same problem. http://213.155.27.24/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t146695.html

You can get a virus from a webpage containing malicious JavaScript code that runs automatically when you visit the page. JavaScript is full of exploits. The one and only virus I ever got was this way. Now I have Waterfox locked down like the fuckin' Pentagon. I ain't scared.

I don't d/l porn as there is no need and you are just asking for viruses IMO. Demonoid has everything but porn, I get all my movies, books and audio books there, as well as most music, though Soulseek is good for tunes too.
Basically Demonoid's the best torrent site, I have several adblocker type add-ons so I don't even get pop-ups on there anymore, better freakin' come back online, I needs mah d/ls!!

ABP and NoScript alone do so much for boosting security. I'd also recommend making the switch Linux al-fucking-ready, but hey, that's me.

very cool, i had never heard of this site before.
downloading season 1 of the walking dead from them right now.
since it is normally a private tracker, i take it that its pretty low risk downloading from them? in terms of copyright infringement notices? any idea?

Demonoid is a good site but not the best. The best sites are nearly impossible to get an invite to and are what every other site reuploads. Scene Trackers are the best there are. SceneAccess being the best. The closest I got to the scene was torrentleech but my account was deleted because I didn't use it for 2 months, joined when it began.
I use TPB for most torrents and Demonoid for anything else I can't find on the Bay. If both fail I use google and can usually find it on a file hosting site or another torrent site.

i have a question, for anyone who can answer it.
Concerning ratios, and how they work. On speed.cd you get banned if you drop below .5. On utorrent my ratio says it is 0.494. 107 uploaded 240 downloaded.
is that what speed.cd sees? even though those download ratios have nothing to do with shit from their site? Or do they just keep track of my ratios concerning uploads/downloads from their tracker?

They only look at the ratios from their tracker. I quick way to fix a ratio is to download the EXACT torrent somewhere else and upload there. Or be a leech and use Greedy Torrent to help your ratio. Don't abuse Greedy Torrent as they may detect it.

sounds like bithief.
besides getting a VPN, programs like bithief are really the only other fairly safe route. Uploading is what will get you a notice, not downloading.

not zero like on utorrent, wich actually means unlimited. Like really, zero, nill.

Ditto.

Speed.cd has several freeleech items. Download those and seed the popular ones. That's what I did on IPtorrents and I have like a 5:1 ratio now. What.cd is the only challenging private site I've found to maintain ratio.

Downloaded, Installed And ScreenShot Just For You
This however is what it reports the lowest I think you can set your upload is 1 kb/s.

I don't get how that is useful given the requirement to maintain ratio on private trackers. On public trackers, you could just close out the torrents as you download them.

Fuck I just uninstalled it but I'll reinstall since I prefer visual proof when I read something so I'll do so for you
The reason this is helpful to maintaining your ratio on private trackers is you can put the download to send as lower than you actually are downloading or upload at a higher rate. Since most trackers monitor outrageous upload rates would be safer with a lower download rate. Uploading at 1.5 what you actually are is not much of a problem I never got caught or downloading at a 1/4 or half is great as well but only helpful if your ratio isn't already FUCKED helps keep the needed upload low.

Wow that's badass. I'm sure what.cd would auto ban for that though. I wouldn't take the risk as it took me years to get an invite.

There is no way for them to know unless your abusing it like 5 times upload for a torrent only 1 person is downloading doesn't make since. Small increase of upload like 1.1 times or smaller download .9 are not detectable.
The correct thing to do is to SEED at least 1:1 and contribute to the community but sometimes a little help fixing ratio is needed sometimes.

Had a torrent running before all this shit happened. Have not seen it on any other tracker.
Now it's vanished.
Demonoid has given me a fantastic run, though.

i liked demonoid as much as the next guy, but there are enough resources out there to still find whatever your looking for. Its not like demonoid served some obscure nitch for rare torrents.
i mean, i will sorely miss the tracker, but you guys are acting like your torrenting careers are over.

Of course but Demonoid had way more status and content than pretty much all other major trackers out there. Known for a long track record, and high standards of quality control.

i do understand what you are saying.
honestly though, i dont get why everyone hates on TPB. I had much better luck on demonoid finding full seasons of rare-ish shows that i like, but as far as movies go, MOST can be found on the bay that could be found on demonoid. I will say it was always demonoid that would come through in a pinch on something, and not TPB, buts it is still my second favorite of the public trackers ( yea demonoid was essentially a private tracker, but you would have never known it, as it had all the disadvantages of public trackers)
as far as safety, i only download shit on the bay from VIP uploaders (they have a green skull next to their member name), never had a problem. sometimes i break this rule, but i read all the comments and make other decisions based on what i can see about it.

TPB has been closed down in UK for weeks too.. I've tried masking my IP etc, but it comes up with some UK govt. banner and denies access, that's part of the reason I'm vexed about demonoid, it was just the easiest and best.
Just did a little reading and major ISP's in the UK are completely blocking access to TPB and probably others too soon... Sux ass, time to switch ISP...AGAIN.

Use tor to get to TPB, then copy and paste the magnet code into your normal browser to download (or work out how to use magnet links within tor, but I couldn't be bothered doing that!)

Sounds like a pain in the ass, there's always p2p stuff and I know lots of people in the US, Tor sounds like a hassle.. Well for just d/l's anyway..

yep, looks like demonoid is done for good.
the domain name is for sale right now, to the highest bidder. Its unlikely to new owner will use it for a tracker, though.
