knats in straw casing
    #1662000 - 06/25/03 06:33 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

i have two terrariums. one has my straw casing which has just started pinning well and 4 eq cakes. my other has 20 gt cakes in it . yesterday i pulled 4 eq cakes out of my first terrium because they have green mold on them after large firts flush. i already got a dried ounce out of all eight cakes so im not worried about that. my question is do you think the knats are spreading contams? don't want to ruin my gt cakes in the other terrarium they hadn't really started to pin great yet. any comments about this subject?

Gnats suck! Kill 'em all! :noway:

And yes, gnats can spread contaminants.

Unless your casing is overrun by bugs, don't stress it.

If you have one or two buggies crawlin' around, try to grab em and squash em.

i don't know how the hell they got in there? i pasturized the straw no themometer in the pot though maybe that was it, i waited till it boiled and everything though. colonized with rye grain cased with 100% verm shrooms look pretty good too. not as good as yours but decent, and not hollow at all.i don't think its too bad now but it seems to be getting worse day by day. maybe u can give me some tips on bulk substrates?

Sure! www.shroomery.org FAQ <--- all the bulk information you need... if you have more feel free to PM me.

The gnats probably just crawled in after you pasteurized.
