running: daytime or nighttime?

So I run fairly often and during the summer, there becomes a pretty huge difference between a daytime run and a nighttime run. During the day (on a hot day like today where it was 96 degrees) I can only manage a 15-20 minute run, but I sweat a shit ton so presumably I’m burning a shit ton of calories, right? During the night however, i can manage a 30-35 minute run but sweat the same or less as my much shorter day run. Obviously the nighttime runs are better for my endurance and actual running skills, but when it comes to losing weight/ burning calories, which is better? which do you personally prefer?

Sweating more doesn't mean you're burning more calories, I would say you're burning more during night since you can keep it up longer.
And I run in the morning before I eat anything. I don't really jog though I just do HIIT

I haven't a clue which would burn more calories (as I don't run to burn calories) but I would assume the longer run would help you burn more. My guess would be that sweating more is simply depleting your body of water at a quicker pace which could have a negative impact on your health if you don't replenish it properly.
I prefer running at night; I also last longer. I can't stand the heat.

Not exactly true. Running during the heat of the day takes up considerably more energy than trying to maintain at night. A big part of that also has to do with enzymes not functioning properly because of the heat so you're using considerably more although that is only true if its over 90+ where you live.
But, speaking for endurance wise, if you can go longer at night, that would be your best bet for actual training.
Personally I like to run in the mornings because it helps me get to eating and its a perfect way to start the day... Go for a run, stretch, shower and eat... makes a good prep to a good day.
Really its just preference on whatever gets you going... as long as you're doing it that is what counts.

Nah there's been studies on this, working out in hot weather really isn't different than doing in a cool weather.

So you're telling me running in 105 degree weather is less vigorous than running in 70 degree weather?
I don't think so. I'd like to see the studies done, I live in Texas and know its way harder to run in the heat. There is no way you're not using more energy to sustain itself.
I don't think you'll get in better shape by running in the heat, but I do think your body uses more energy.

God damn it, I always mention studies when I don't feel like looking them up. I'll get back to that later, I just tried looking for a few minutes and can't find that same study, all I can find is that, no, you don't lose more fat running in the heat. If you look it up you'll find a lot of info on that fact.

Eh I would assume during the day you will burn more calories if your running for the same amount of time as at night and the same distance. Otherwise they could probably even out. But it does make sense even in the NFL a lot of teams struggle when they come to the South from up North cause they are not used to the same intensity when its hot and humid compared to real cold all the time.

I would definitely suggest investing in a pair of running shoes, even if its an old pair from a sibling or a parent or a roommate or whatever. your feet are gonna be killing you real quick if you try running in skateboard shoes for any lengthy distance

I am an experienced runner. I live in an area that consistently gets triple digit temps during the day so running early in the morning or at night is pretty much the only option bc my shortest runs are like 45 min. Running at night is ALWAYS better than running during the day, PERIOD. Even if your primary goal is just to burn calories. During the heat of the day, your heart rate will be higher given a certain pace as oppose to your heart rate at that same pace during the night. In other words, given a set pace, you will burn more calories during the heat of the day. BUT if your running when its cooler out your going to end up running at a faster pace and you will probably feel like going a longer distance more often. Not to mention running at night is WAY less miserable.
I dont care what anyone says, your GOING to get more out of a run if you run when its cooler out. This is coming from someone w/ years and years of running experience.
