a friend has been fruiting his poo/straw substrate for about of week.... there wasnt much change to the mycelium on the casing layer but overnight only 2 "pins" appeard, one only a cm tall and one about an inch tall... both are about a quater inch around... a light brown cap looking thing and a white stem, they r kind of fuzzy.... a expierenced friend said he had never seen anything like it..... the other mycelium doesnt look like its ready to pin like that yet... is this normal?

Sounds like something went wrong. Too dry, or maybe not enough air exchanges.
Was there mycelium visible through the casing layer before fruitng conditions?

it got plenty of air exchange, 4 hours of light a day, temp was 74.... the humidity was at 80 and the casing layer could have been a little dry... getting poloriod film today so i can post a pic

Humidity at 80%? Yep that is too dry. Do you mean to say that you were doing a casing run, but had not induced fruiting yet? If so then your humidity should be at 95%+. (same conditions as for spawn run. You could try and do a deep scratch on the casing layer and slowly add more moisture (using a mister) over the next few days to try and salvage it. good luck

80% is good?

ok... i think there might be some confuson with nomenclature right after you have cased the straw/poo mixture with an appropriate casing layer the humidity should stay at 90%+ (and be in complete darkness) until you see some mycelium just below the surface of the casing layer. At this point in time to induce primordia formation fresh air and light should be introduced and the humidity should not drop below ~95% After you have pins you can increase the air exchange rate a bit, but don't let humidity go below around 85%. These are the conditions that you should maintain throughout the cropping phase. is this helpful?

yes... most definatly, but i cant get the humidity any higher than 80 so should i mist lets say like twice a day.... the casing layer was incubated at 85 untill mycelium poked through then was patched until an even layer of mycelium was on top.... after that temp was droped to 74 and was fanned at least 4 times a day reciving 4 hours of light a day.... it sat for around a week until now... there is rysomorpic(spelling?) mycelium growing in strands upwards throught the casing.... could it be a mutation?.... would i be better off deep scratching, letting it sit.... or plant it and see if somthing grows outside?

You can mist as often as you need to maintain proper humidity levels. *lol* don't worry about that. Just make sure that you don't get panning on the surface from to much misting. Is the rhizomorphic growth pretty uniform across the surface? Could be that the strain is just a bit slower to pin. I have seen trays take up to 2 wks before they have a nice layer of pins. My recommendation is that you increase misting just a little and keep up what you have been doing. I wouldn't worry about mutations right now. hope this helps with your problems

well... i found out what those pins were... not cubensis!... has anyone else had radon mushrooms pop out of thier casing?... i just figure it must have come from the poo and survived pasturization... they have been picked and now the casing is pinning normaly.... that is fucking strange?
