Experimenting with ramen noodles
    #16605598 - 07/28/12 11:45 AM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Having nothing but a sporeprint, a few jars, and a spawnbag, I decided that since I won't have extra money for BRF or more coir I decided to test some stuff out. I recall reading about the pasta tek, just boil noodles as if you were cooking them for yourself, put in jar and pack it tight, add verm layer and knock it up after a 20-30 min PC.  I packed two jars with cooked, unseasoned ramen noodles and verm as a barrier layer, and made a 2 quart spawnbag out of a ziploc bag, substrate is random amounts of coir+one PF cake amount of verm / BRF + water + 2 tablespoons spent coffee grounds. PCin'g the spawn bag and i'm seeing if boiling the noodles and bleaching the jar was enough to prevent contam, as an experiment, as I type this, and will update. The spores are from the heartiest mushroom from my last monotub, which was Z Strain. I got 7 dark, 1.5 inch in diameter spore prints out of this single mushroom cap by the way. The spawnbag will be spawned to pasteurized coir and will attempt to fruit the noodle cake. If no pins appear in 2 weeks, I will spawn the noodles to another small bucket of coir. I'll keep ya posted

Ramen is artificial, doesn't digest in the body properly, seen a YouTube video of a person with a stomach camera record the noodles breaking down...it barely does...in several hours... devils product good luck

Why do people insist on constantly trying to reinvent the wheel?

All the popular teks are popular because the ingredients/equipment can be bought anywhere from South Africa, to Korea to New Zealand, even in Bumblefuck USA.

I appreciate sometimes new ideas lead to new teks, but noodles? I think OP has noodles between his ears.

Sometimes that pays off- ever hear of the Killough Platform?
It uses an entirely different sort of wheel, made from ordinary wheels.
Steel-belted radials were a big deal too, that was a re-invention of the wheel.

This thread is about stoners being stoned though.

I worked as a bike mechanic for years, I can build a wheel from a hub, some nipples and a pile of spokes, the key point being that round has always remained the optimum shape of a wheel, a matter beyond increased torsional strength and weight reduction, aerodynamics etc.

Bike wheels have been reinvented in recent years too.
They're still round but now they are made from big carbon fiber planks.
In some cases. But I don't think anybody is making wheels out of ramen noodles.

Loll wtf I want to see that shotglass sized cake in fuiting-mode! Wonder how tiny the mushies were. I almost wanna do one on my next batch of jars for the fun of it. Would probably fully-colonize in like 7 days lol

Guess it IS possible to get large fruits off of a tiny amount of substrate.. This was posted in another thread I think RR did this. Either way those huge shrooms are fuiting off barely anything: https://files.shroomery.org/files/07-008/216093810-marc1_pictures_576.jpg

Don't have the money for BRF?

You do know you can just buy brown rice and grind it up yourself, right?  If you have a decent blender, use it.  Or if you don't have the money to spare, go buy a blender, use it and return it.

Not counting the blender this would cost you about $3 tops.

Ramen noodle tek will utterly fail.

you have plenty of prints. 1 dark prints can easily make 10+ syringes. don't listen to the naysayers. experiment. no one here knows all there is to know about mycology. even if (though) it's not optimum, it will likely fruit. i think you should do it and report bak with results.

The fun comes in not failing and having mushrooms = :trippinballs: = fun.

I have tried new teks etc myself, I just think the substrate is one area that is pretty firmly mastered already.

And not being able to afford BRF etc? That is ludicrous.

Lmao right. I couldn't afford flour so I used noodles. So funny. But who knows, some of the best inventions come from mistakes. I don't think this is one of those cases though  :ramen:

If I was going to experiment with noodles I would have used the plain rice noodles that aren't fried like ramen.  Can cubensis mycelium eat concentrated vegetable oils?

i'm pretty sure they can. i put uncooked vegetable oil in my subs. and woodlovers (mostly oysters and shiitake) are being used more and more in soil and water bioremediationbecause of their ability to break down petroleum and it's many byproducts, as well as breaking down cellulose based ptroducts like paper and themillions of tons o shitty diapers in landfills. others such as cubes MAY do the same, but noone is really running tests with them atm.

lol @ our broke-ass op! damn, u do know you can grind it yourself and it doesn't have to be organic right? if your thsat broke, go to a foodbank.

The only reason I tried random kitchen goodies was due to the fact that I have no job (am waiting on interviews from 20 different applications)because I got my parents so pissed at me to the point they decided to kick me out, but are paying for my first 2 months rent for the apartment. I still have to pay for my utility bills, food, gas, car insurance, school, etc. I have no extra cash, and just have what's I've stocked up in my kitchen to grow mushies. Don't think that I'm retarded for trying it. I had no expectation that it would work, but there was myc for about a week and got taken over by powder mold. I wish I could've posted a pic but I completely forgot about this thread-_-

I said I'm waiting on interviews and continue to apply, so there's absolutely no reason to be rude telling me to get a job. I'm 18, have my high school diploma, have had one job in the past and they used their right to fire me right before my probationary period was up to be able to join the union. That's how retail seems to work in southeast michigan atleast, and it takes a while to get a job in Michigan. Shit, my uncle's been looking for work for two years. Not just applying places and waiting, but legitemately trying, doing his best and such. I'm a part time student at a community college as well, and don't have much free time. Don't tell me to get a job when I said that I've applied and am currently working to get one. With only one job in the past, having been on probation for a minor charge, and the fact that there are far more applicants more worthy for jobs than an 18 year old who just graduated and has a criminal history, I hope you can see how it's a bit difficult for me to get a job.

Sure.
But wasting a pack of ramen on a useless grow is still dumb.
Extra dumb if it's as hard as all that to find a job.

Spend your time, energy, money, and resources on proven teks and save the ramen for a hungrier day.

And I don't really see how I'm 'spoiled'. My parents were simply nice enough to loan me the $750.00 to pay my first couple bills. My bad, I realized it sounded like they were paying for me to live on my own. I have to pay them back.

I don't see the point in all this bashing of how I choose to use a ten cent pack of noodles though. Like I said, I didn't expect much of it, but if I successfully made a ramen cake to fruit I'd get about the same amount of 'food' from the mushrooms as I would have from the unhealthy, preservative-loaded, 'ultra sodium-ized' noodles.

Lmao now we're just getting off topic haha. As opposed to buying a small bag of organic BRF for 4$ for a quart or so, would it be the same to buy brown rice and blend to a powder?

You guys are dicks! haha man! The person is off his ass interviewing.
THIS IS CRAZY, WHAT A CONINCIDENCE! BECAUSE I'M IN THE SAME BOAT AND I WAS ALSO CURIOUS ABOUT THE NOODLES!! NO WAY.. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR POSTING YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH THIS NEW EXPERIMENT, THATS WHAT THIS THREAD IS FOR! not bashin a broke looser. haha. like me. fuckers.
If brown rice is nourishing maybe the raman noodles are too.. all you have to do is look up the ingredients and find the info online. then again there's always the magic of life finding a way and things that happen that aren't explained to our tiny human minds.. pffft. haha.

Be nice guys everyone has different priorities and circumstances. I am growing mushrooms and I have no jobs, probably can't pay my rent, have 2 kids. It's easy to judge when you're in a completely different situation. It's not like him trying to grow some mushies is going to affect his situation for better or worse. Probably gives him something to look forward to amidst all of the stress. At least that's how it is for me..

Lol well even in my situation.. pretty much everyone has like a few dollars for some brf or brown rice. Have a friend go in with you on supplies and share the fruits.... If that's an option. Then of course they're taking a risk with you if there's no success. But you don't need much $$
