Humidifier Noobie

Ok so my friend just set up a humidifier and wanted to check in with the pro's to see if he is doing it right. My friend has a styrofoam cooler with about 20 cakes in it atm. The Humidifier has 3 settings...High, Medium and Low. With four switches to leave it on for 2 hours, 4 hours , 8 hours , or constant. He has the Humidifier connected to 3 1.5 litre bottles then to the terrarium. Fluorescant tube on top of the cooler (oh acrylic lid so the light gets through). Also used some chicken wire to keep the cakes off the bottom. When it is put on high you can see visable mist chilling in the terrarium (looks real cool but is it too much?). He is worried about too much humidity though. How exactly should the setup be Run? Leave it on High constantly and just open it up every once in a while? Leave it on High for like an hour then let it sit for a long time b4 turning it back on? Leave it on low constantly? Leave it on low for a couple hours then turn it off for the rest of the day? Just wondering how you pro's have yours set up. Thx.

Id invest in a humidity guage. It will tell you exactly what your humidity is doing.

If you are using cakes, Id suggest you keep your humidity as high as possible. That will ensure they dont dry out, and you will have some nice flushes.
