pressure cooker troubles

does anyone know how/why an otherwise healthy pressure cooker would seemingly randomly stop holding pressure?  like, say, it might be exhausting steam around the seal....

Welcome to the world of Gasket PC's.. When you get tired of spending $14 every year for a gasket set go get an All American from Ebay.

NEVER, NEVER use vegetable oil on anything made of gum.

As suggested, you?ll have to get a new seal...which might prove difficult for such an old cooker.

Anno, if vegetable oil is not recommended, what is the best lubricant to use for an easy opening of the cooker?????

Had that problem on a new one myself.

Look at the handles, on the outside of the handles there might be bolts? Try tightening them down as on my model the handles actually move , you really cant see them move but when pressure builds up they move with the PC and it is how it seals. I tightened mine more after being jared around and it fixed the problem.. Probably depends on your PC and its amenities
