3 days of dicking around with my laptop

and finally I got it working. I dropped it the other day and then had serious issues with it (bootmgr missing, no boot sector found on internal harddrive, corrupt OS). It is a dell with windows 7, but the hard drive seemed to be messed up pretty bad. Then i was getting errors the OS was corrupt, along with multiple other errors. Didn't want to take it to a shop because they would charge me way too much. So I ended up fixing it by replacing the hard drive and OS (it didn't go smoothly at first, but I got it done).
The thing I'm pissed about, is I had to go buy windows 7 disk which was $130, because my laptop came with the OS already installed. I should have asked them to send me the actual disk instead of having them put it on.
Now Its finally running after 200 bucks, a few days of trouble-shooting (I'm a noob with computers), and loosing all my files, though I didn't have anything too important (that I can think of right now), besides my music which I have on my ipod anyway.
Obviously dropping any computer is going to damage it, but come november I think I'm going to buy a macpro for my birthday.
oh yea, and I can finally chill at the shroomery again too.

What would you suggest? I've got a dell inspiron 1545 right now that I've had for a few years and just want an upgrade.

What are you looking to do with it? I'd get the Transformer Prime with the docking station if I was just surfing the web

I just find if you were to custom build your own tower you can get a really nice pc for fairly cheap in comparison with way over £1000 for a laptop.

Yeah, I'm not gonna be doing much, maybe a few games here and there, but basically just average web-surfing and few apps.
Btw, do you (or anyone else) know how to transfer music from an ipod to a new itunes?

You can't do it. You can only transfer it the other way around. You must use third part software to get music off an iPod as far as I'm aware.

And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I actually did it a few years ago when I got this computer. I forget how, but I remember it was a total pain in the ass, but I'm pretty sure I was able to do it.

Proprietary software is outdated.

Just did it again, wasn't too bad actually. What you have to do is change your file options so that you can view hidden files. Then plug in your ipod, browse the files within that drive, click on ipod-control, and then music. Apple encrypts it all into 4letter titles such as AXNT or something like that, then puts it under folders titled F01 F02 F03 etc..
You just copy those files into your itunes music folder, then go into itunes itself and click import files. Some of the files will be synced into itunes as the same 4 letter code, which sucks because you have to listen to the song and then manually type in the name, but there weren't that many. Most trasnfer back to the correct artist and track title.
So yeah, if anyone ever needs to know how to put your ipod music on a new itunes without 3rd party software, thats the basic rundown.

If that's all your doing you are going to be overpaying by buying a mac.

Ya they look smart, but I hate the market monopoly that they are trying to get. I hear that the 5th gen they are changing the ports on the phones now also. No copies will work + everyone will need to buy new stuff i.e apple docking stations etc.

Fuck apple. I can't stress that enough.
--------------------
It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. Also he got a race car. Is any of this getting through to you?
