thanks, its rare to find someone that cares about something that doesn't or hasn't affected them personally. so heres some more info - 1/10 people with schizophrenia kill themselves, 1/5 people with schizoaffective disorder kill themselves. The rates of recovery and living are higher in many other countries, but in the west with the latest medicen and hospitals people like us are getting worse and worse. its cause of the way that their society works and their methods of treatment. they just want to numb us. but all these people are using psychotomimetic (isn't that shulgin's term?) drugs to learn. just imagine tripping all the time - you would get lost sometimes, feel good sometimes, feel bad sometimes etc.. but if you accept it you can guide it and use it in a positive way and learn from it. but if you just see it as a symptom and think of yourself as a 'patient' then you'll never be free. it took me a long time and a lot of suffering to accept me for what i am. there are many other bad (and only bad) symptoms of schizophrenia, but they don't really have any medicen for these, all they have is anti-psychotics which really just make a lot of your 'negative symptoms' worse. but i really think the most disabling aspects of this illness are caused by their society, just like a lot of the negative affects of drug use are caused by their society. the whole thing is funny in a way (at least to me), cause western medicen has no idea what this is. they have no idea how to treat it, cure it, diagnose it, or anything. they like to think of themselves as so advanced, yet only a short while ago was psychology even considered as a legitamate field. and they owe so much to the poeople that they disrespect. most of our medicens come from shamans (i forget the exact percentage), and not suprisingly, shamans have a better success rate for treating this than them cause they don't just talk to you for 15 minutes every 4 months and give you whichever addictive pills their hospital is sponsered by. their knowledge goes back way further than the west's. shamans at least respect western medicen for what it is. they know it has a place and time. they go to a hospital if need be, yet a lot of the west won't even recognize that shamans contribute to their knowledge and that they can still learn from them. this is one thing that western medicen can't even really TREAT.

The reason Humphry Osmond invented the word "psychedelic" (in 1957) was to distinguish it from psychosis or schizophrenia.

Thanks for sharing. It sounds like you are pretty responsible. It does pay to have caution when it comes to these drugs.

ricochet, your story is one I can relate to rather well. I'm naturally a rather paranoid type of person, and whenever I smoked marijuana, this characteristic is accentuated to the point I'm convinced my heart has stopped and I am dying/having heart attack. I've never taken an anti-psychotic, or any psychadelic besides marijuana, but I fear that sometime down the line I'll end up on one. I was misdiagnosed in the past with depression and took 20mg of Lexapro for a while and then quit cold turkey. This incident seriously "screwed me up" or something. Since then I've been getting horrendous anxiety attacks and have had minor visual hallucinations and depression. It's been tearing me up inside to the point where I started taking Lexapro again on the 3rd and scheduled an appointment with my old doctor tomorrow (20th). I myself have been passionate about persevering the experience of alternate realities and mental states through drugs like LSD, mushrooms, and other psychoactives but I fear I may not have the mental stability for years.
Also, what medication were you prescribed and what side effects do you deal with?

I use drugs, but i'm an exception. It was a certain acid trip that got me to seek help in the first place. I haven't had a bad trip in years (but i don't trip too much anymore). coke used to help me get through working extra long hours when the antipsychotics made me tired. sometimes i would get paranoid on coke, but my girlfriend always can make me feel better. herbs i smoke throughout the day. I still am on antipsychotic, anti depressant, and ADD meds. i can't take maois with the ssri, but i do get drunk off of one belgian beer.
