nice one.
was just readin through some of the teks....and i reckon i might have meant cracked corn....
thanks for the straw reccommendation.
this has probably been asked a million times already...but can i just get any old straw...i.e. stuff from a farmer or someone who keeps horses...(might have a bit of poo in it already...a good thing?)??

a farm would be a good place to ask. a whole bale is probably only a few quid from a farmer.

wheat straw is best, followed closely by barley straw. straw is yellow, and strawlike (hollow) - not green and covered in grains (this is hay, bad news). i get my straw from the petshop, pre-shredded. it's hamster bedding, and rabbit food i think.

p.s. i once crashed a hang-glider on ilkley moor.

you'll find popcorn a bit more tolerant than cracked corn, that is, it's harder to screw up popcorn. cracked corn, while fast, suffers from excessive starch and must be cooked the minimum possible time [~30 min} and then rinsed repeatedly, dried, broken up then it's ready to use. it's chief advantage is speed.
but popcorn is just as fast, and far less problematic with regards to excess starch content. the only problem is it's slighly more expensive than cc.
shop around, though, and popcorn can be obtained for about 25 cents a pound in largher amounts, while cc is about 10 cents a pound in bulk.
