Hey all!
Well, I got my first flush off 1/2 pt brf Maz cased w/50/50+ --20 g wet. There were quite a few pins but they were only an inch tall or shorter. The caps weren't black so I don't know if they were aborts or just short. What's the deal?

I also have this problem with some EQ's (sorry to steal the post). I patched it and waited a until there was strong myc. growth on the surface, then birthed. Got prolly a hundred pins on an 11in. X 9in. casing, but only 10 or 15 mushies. None of the caps were black on mine either.

I dunno...if they have halted in the growing cycle then I can only guess that hey are aborts...if you pick them before they rot they are still good to eat, but once the black cap forms, forget it.

My foaf know they're good to eat as aborts, but my foaf would like more big mushies. 15 big mushies and one hundred aborts aren't the signs of a good grower and he wants to get the kinks out. Can anyone help? Casings have full air exchange 5-6 times daily, plenty of light (as evidenced by pins), and have an ultrasonic humidifier running in mist for 15 min. every six hours. Anyone got a clue as to the problem?

size is directly related to amount of colonized substrate used.
