I was watching cops (with my traditional bottle of Wild Turkey I always buy before watching the show) and they had a STING operation in Tampa Bay where they were catching people sell AND BUY Marijuana, and they were throwing them all in jail and siezing ALL of their cars.
Isn't this a bit overboard for buying pot? This is the reason I moved out of Florida (I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, though.)

How much were they selling and buying? If it's less than an once it's rediculous. Even then, it's pretty sad that police round up drug dealers/users (big dealers I can understand) when there's terrorists and hundreds of thousand illegal aliens running around.

They were buying extremely small amounts of pot. Like under $100 everytime.

I don't understand why anyone would buy weed from a stranger in the first place, but especially if it were like a pound or something.

Oh, well in that case, those cops were nothing more than car thieves.

"How much were they selling and buying? If it's less than an once it's rediculous." Yes, less than an ounce total was being sold, and the people buying 20 bags (I think they were 20 bags) had their cars seized, too. -- Micro

haha. i saw that tonight too and i was gonna post about it. some fucked up shit. stealing cars basically. shiyat. i feel bad for those people. the dude selling was an undercover cop. he'd sell to people who'd pull up in their car and buy a gram of pot or two. then the cops would swoop in, bust them, and inform them that not only were they getting charged with buying marijuana, but that their car now belonged to the city of tampa.

I saw that one a long time ago... Every time they busted them they would hit the other car with an undercover truck and cops would all swarm out and bust them..
They said that running into the other car caused little damage and it would throw the peopl off enough so that officers could secure them before they got a chance to grab their guns if they had them..
I saw lots of young kids get busted. It was pretty sad..
As for buying weed off the street from strangers.. I used to do it all the time.. It was the very best thing around, for $5 I could get a joint or two of some OK mexican weed, get high and play some video games, go have lunch and toke some more all in the same part of town, in several diferent towns too.

Well who says the WOD cant be alittle profitable too. cops familys need cars too, so they auction off the seized cars at secret places for dirt cheap.

COPS is unfortuently an extremely racist show. At least it used to be. I haven't watched that in quite some time.
Make note of how many hispanics/blacks they arrest compared to white people.

how do you mean?
is COPS the show racist, or are cops themselves racist?
COPS the show is not racist. it's just the opposite.
in COPS, the police always do everything by the books, get the bad guy, and save the day. the cops are always the good guys. there are no beatings, threats, or other misconduct. they know they're on camera. COPS has done a good job of whitewashing the reality of our police forces, which too often use excessive force, racial profiling, threats, lies, and dirty police work in general.
(except when they occasionally show some cops abusing an asset seizure law to steal people's cars)

I'd really love to see a show where they hit the Mercedeses of white colar criminals (like Enron & co. CEO's) with an undercover truck, swarm out and bust them. That would be real fun!

Wanna know something really funny? Michigan just passed a very tough Click It or Ticket law that gives the right to police to pull you over if they "suspect" you're not wearing a seatbelt. My friends have found this to also mean that they will pull you out of your car and search both. Hmmmm... Searching cars because of no seatbelt. Way to go fellas, this law sucks...
