So... is this a touch of black mold with a pin? Dangerous? *PICS*
    #16536377 - 07/15/12 07:21 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

So I have a beautiful jar... You can see a pin beginning to grow inside... but there's a touch of what I'm assuming is black mold...

Hopefully its obvious why I don't want to toss this. Is it a bad idea to take the jar outside, with a mask... cut off the ugly part... bring in and fruit?

I'd even go so far as to burn the clothes I was wearing after cutting it off!

Some TC input would be awesome!

Because it contains a fungus which might potentially kill you and your family?

So... what you're actually trying to say, WITHOUT being an asshole, is "Yes. That is black mold. Fruiting is not a good idea"?

Debut, I did have a few more jars. None of the others have finished colonizing yet. Few more days I believe.

I think next time I will definitely use a glove box. I had 6 of 20 jars get contaminated.

There's a line between failing to get a joke and being a prick.

That's okay. You fellas feel free to "rate" me. What goes around comes around

If you want to parade around acting like jerks and then cry when someone points it out- have at it. I applaud you, big boys.

Yes ma'am. I believe 2 did. The other two were contaminated while colonizing. I flamed the needle before each noc point. Wiped with alocohol after flaming. Also gave each top a good scrubbing with the alcohol before inoculating. Is that poor procedure? Or just because I didn't use a box?

Edit:
4 contams- not 6. 1 stalled. 2 black mold. 2 green mold. Both green mold at noc points. Black mold not at noc points. The one stalled- No idea what went wrong there?

Thanks for the tip. I had no idea. I was using the alcohol to cool the needle before inoculating. Should I wait a few seconds after flaming? Won't pushing spores through a hot ass needle kill the spores?

I have no idea. Which is why I'm asking. Don't get offended. Not questioning YOU.
