    #1653601 - 06/22/03 03:23 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

I put the colonize cake in a rubbermaid bin. My caseing layer is peat moss and perlite and limestone flour. I see the mycelium growing on top of the soil a little bit and it been that way for a while(2weeks). I Use the lid to fan it twice a day and I mist it once a day.
when do I see pin head or mushrooms. Anyone have any sugestion or tips. I really need an answer. this suppose to be easy......

After seeing the mycelia on the top, you should have lowered the temperature and added light. The air exchange sounds like it's good.  Have you done the temp reduction and added light? If so... patience is a virtue  It just takes time, but I guarantee you that if you've done everything right, it'll happen

What strain? How much light? What temp?

According to the teks, some strains can take up to a month to pin. One of them recommends cold-shocking for recalcitrant cakes, but I'm no expert. It sounds like they should pop any time. As I've said before...it takes the patience of a saint and the determination of a fiend.

Why would you use perlite as part of your casing layer? That's probably your major problem right there.

Love & Light,

Boppity

I have searched every where for vermiculite, and have no luck in finding any, so I have order some vermiculite online..
1.)The question is can I remove some of the old casing layer and replace it with the new casing layer. Would it damage the mycelium?
2.) What is the right lower temp? is 70F. ok..
