Identification Help: Gymnopilus with Bluing Mycelium (FLA)
    #1651187 - 06/21/03 02:06 PM (20 years, 9 months ago)

Hello Shroomers,

Today we found these growing from the dead tree stump of an Oak tree here in sunny/rainy/happy Sarasota;

First we have a photograph of the fruit-bodies along with a ruler for size comparison;

Now on about the "bluing" that we observed;

-None of the fruitbodies appeared to display any bluing, but the mycelium connected to the tree clearly had a light bluing on the white mycelium and also intertwined within the mycelium there were tiny little baby primordia of which also exhibited this bluing.

I'm layin' down 5 spore prints off these caps;

There will be more pic's of this soon  in their natural habitat :rocket: :heart: :stoned: :mushroom2: :grin:

Keep shroomin,
GGreatOne234

Hello,

For now i am not certain which shroom species this is yet,

My first assumption was G. luteofolius

It is a truly magical little tree stump we discovered today!

I am headed back to the location again tommorrow equipt with my sony digicam.

There were an estimated 2,000 goldeny-orange/yellow pins left behind to grow and to fruit into bright golden umbrellas of fungus
-oh it is truly a magnificent magical tree stump lol

5 spore prints are being deposited on clean white paper and intended to be treated for further analysis.

Keep on shroomin, If you dare,
GGreatOne234

GG found some gymnos a few years back. I thought they were Gymnopilus luteofolius. A couple of those showed some light greenish-blue discoloration on the caps. Of course I'm clueless when it comes to the Gymnopilus species. :confused: I know they are sometimes yellowish-orangeish-looking.  :grin:

Hello again everybody,

I will take more prints of these mushrooms on alcohol-wiped foil for anyone interested please personal message me;
-for those of you that have already messaged me i will get back to you with replies soon.

I will be heading back over to the magical tree stump in the ground
And this time equipt with my digital camera.

I'll cut some in half and share a photo of that also;

I will also work on getting photographic evidence of this "bluing" phenomenon.

Nice find, I just found alot of those near some oak trees over here in sunny Huntsville,Al. Red caps with a yellow spogy looking underside and yellow stamin. They did bruise blue-green. Im interested if they are psyco active or not. Thanks. :laugh:

You've got something other than what GG's got. The "spongy underside" indicates that you've found boletes.

You should start a thread for your find and post photos (if you have any) and a description (be sure to note how long it takes for them to turn blue), and we'll see about identifying your mushrooms for you.

Happy mushrooming!

We went back today and made one last large collection from the same tree stump.

No noticeable bluing at all today.

Here are the collections;

Many spore prints are being made on aluminum foil.

More details will follow in coming days;

Keep shroomin,
