Simple solution - don't record to disc using WMA
What software are you using to rip your CDs to hard disk?
I use Audiograbber and that works like a dream converting CDs down to MP3s plus I'm pretty sure it can downloaded with a keygen using most p2p applications. Failing that there are plenty of free (and legit) ones on www.downloads.com

As far as recording to disc, I've found EasyCDCreator more forgiving than Nero when it comes to burning MP3s to CD

i think easy cd creator 5+ works with XP.
Yup, just checked:
http://www.roxio.com/en/support/roxio_support/roxio_xp_sup_notes.html

P.S. Personally I use Easy CD-DA Extractor, it can only create cd's using mp3 and wav files, but can also convert files from most other formats (including .wma).

i downloaded grabber put a disc in pressed grab
and it grabbed half the songs on the disc

theses recorded ok but why did it only grab half the songs?

easycd only works on supported recorders, i'm sure
and mines not supported
it never sees my recorder when i install Ecd 5.1
maybe i need another download for it

but grabber worked with half the album so its
a step inthe right direction

thanks again

i see you can select all tracks by default on audiograbber
well i done that and it still only grabs half

Select all tracks by default
If this option is selected then Audiograbber will put a checkmark in the boxes in front of the tracks as default. If not selected then all tracks will become unchecked by default.

If it's shareware sometimes they only let you rip some tracks, look for a keygen

I used easycd myself until I upgraded to xp and discovered it wouldn't work
That forced me to download easy cd-da extractor, and I've been happy with it ever since, so haven't gone back to easycd.

Just checked it out and the homepage is:

The new version of Media Player should support MP3's; if it doesn't you may just need the CODECS on your computer.

To check if you have the codecs, go to control panels > multimedia, click on the "devices" tab and then open up the list of "audio compression codecs" by pressing the (+) sign to the left of it. You should have something in there that says "mp3" or "mpeg-layer 3" codec, if you don't, do a search for l3codec.exe and install. That's an "L" not a "1."

It should work after you do this, if not you need to download a new version of Media Player because it doesn't recognize the headers.

As for the .wma files -- it's the same problem; a lot of old CD-burning programs won't recognize the headers even if you have the CODECS installed. Either get a CD burning program that does or the new version of Sound Forge (highly reccomended) which can open almost any file, which you can save as whatever type you want. Just make sure to delete the temp files it makes (.sfk, s00, etc in the same folder as the original sound file) because they are decompressed as PCM-WAV and take up a lot of memory.

The crack code for Sound Forge can be found with a search at http://astalavista.box.sk (pay attention to version/build) but remember to actually *use* the crack to make the demo into a full version is illegal.

Happy Trails!
