Nordic and Baltic liberty cap thread 2012
#16529631 - 07/14/12 09:42 AM (11 years, 8 months ago) |

The first semilanceatas of the season popped up in a nearby pasture today. I think this year is going to be good!
I took the liberty (pun intended) of creating a thread for all nordic and baltic findings of liberty caps so we can all congratulate each other and such.
Location: Sweden, Västergötland
The last picture is just so you can see the date (July 2012)
Happy hunting!

Havn't cared to go looking for liberty caps before, but perhaps this year will be a first. Won't bother to go looking until august though, should be way more shrooms around by then.

Yeah, it's still very early, almost a week earlier than any of the previous years I have hunted for libs.
Lots of rain this summer, could be promising. And there will be lots of edibles in just a couple of weeks.
This is the three liberty caps I found yesterday:

Yeah, I guess you should have had the honor of starting this thread really. Sorry about that! :/
Congratulations on your findings!

I never would have started an official thread anyway, so don't feel sorry.

Nice early libs, someone has found some libs in southern Finland also. This year looks very good for mushrooms in general.

Summertime 2012 UK here obviously not as far north as Scandinavia, but after our wettest summer on recorded I'm fearing that we will next get the driest coldest autumn too.
And what about this years mushrooms season ? whats next ? will they show up this year ?.
Mush pickers this year in UK might be scuppered by this horrible weather, and what about my Mrs ? shes in a life and death situation. She relies on this medicinal plant to combat her cluster headaches, and suffering her headaches are in her words "not worth living for". It would be far better she says, to be able go to pharmacy to purchase this substance than to rely on the weather or vagaries of supposed 'climate change' or rain fall or autumn-time temperatures,! Yet here we are... and every time we touch collect process or consume this substance we are criminals and prison-able for a period of 7 years here in the UK.
Crazy, Crazy, Crazy. And wrong.

Fingers crossed for a good UK season! Couldn't you order some kind of growkit though? That way you don't have to rely on the weather.
Isn't a cold autumn good for the mushrooms?

not if it dont rain.. and we already had two years worth of rain in a few months and usually a drought follows a deluge like this, and I fear that if it doesn't rain this autumn: we wont be able to pick at all .
Growing is a possibility, but the authorities can then throw accusation at us of "growing to sell and distribute for financial gain" and then one would really be in the shit with the law.
Crazy bad and nasty, thats what it is.

Thumbs up for the Swedish liberty cap finds! I was away and didn't see this thread before now. No luck yet for me at least, but apparently somebody has found them on the Norwegian side of the border as well.
I'll have to dip into my fields on a more regular basis from now on...

Finally:
These were found this evening in a lawn, urban residential area, altitude approximately 15 meters. There were some pins as well:
And a bonus (look closely, it's double )
Todays one trophy:

Thanks, I was a bit surprised to find my first lib of the year down town, in a spot that I thought was dead, instead of the more consistent fields that give regularly massive results. Exciting, none the less!

Also found a couple at another spot, a lawn in front of an office building by the seaside, altitude approx. 1 meter:

Thanks, Knarkkorven! How is it going in your area, any further activity?
I'm quite baffled that these urban lawns are fruiting prior to the more ideal habitats like the countryside pastures I'm usually hunting in.
