Agaricus Blazei Murill
    #16519000 - 07/12/12 10:02 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Hello all,

I have several ABM blocks that have entered fruiting conditions.

These are the first blocks of this species that I have made, and I have a question.

If the casing soil is completely consumed by the fungus, should I be depositing
a new casing layer on top of this?

Any pointers/issues for this species will be most appreciated!

Thank you,

JD

I thought to add some photos.

I took the traditional route on letting the casing layer be colonized
somewhat before exposing the grows to fruiting conditions.

This went off the rails on a few of the blocks, as this species is
strong and fast!

Here:

These two are closer to what I hoped to see:

I am thinking that I could simply moisten some cactus soil and
place it on top of the over colonized blocks.  This strain is so
aggressive that contams are less likely to be a problem.

Any thoughts appreciated,

JD

I just fruited my first bag.

To follow Carstens advice, "if the casing is fully colonized then simply mist lightly and after a few days it will fruit.

Check out Carstens picture on my thread on casing.

ciao

Thanks Darkman.

I know...I should just search Carten's threads before I type anything.  :0)

I post most of my questions with him in mind anyway!

Take care,

JD

Yep, this applies to pic 3 and 4. The trick is to carefully spray down the surface mycelium with fine mist as soon as it shows up. In the fourth you may sprinkle some additional soil along the sides to cover the dense spots.

For the first two... they've gone too far in my eyes. I'd scratch the top and apply another layer (1 - 2 cm), keeping the material on the dry side.

Cactus soil should be fine, even untreated, as ABM doesn't suffer from mold infections as Agaricus bisporus.

Yup, this is what I was thinking.  I really appreciate the confirmation Carsten.

In the first two pict cases we would apply a new thin layer of moist cococoir
