bait_ said: that's a volcanic rock for sure. the color does indicate rich in iron (it weathers red)
i'd call it a 'black vesicular trap'
plus a meteorite would be smooth from the friction of entry into the atmosphere...

it's not a meteorite, but they can sell for thousands at gem shows. i know since i see them sold. moldovites are especially rare and extemely valuable, as much as any gemstone and are carved and worn as jewelry.

it depends on where it came from and if you have or know the chain of custody. damage on the termination deflects from the value, as does an inability to present the specimen. if it's been faceted by machine, then it's probably brazilian and worth about what you paid for it, maybe less. it's impossible to put a value on absolute unknowns.

no it was a real gem. The problem is it had about 3 cluster. One big one the size of a football, the other the size of an elongated fist. But my friend ripped that out and sold it. I was pissed coz I didnt feel it was worth much anymore. But he was greedy and did it., I wont elaborate on the origin of the piece, but its real, and sadly, not what it used to be.

without the state and county at least, it will be considered worthless to any serious mineral collector. a "crystal healer" might not give a shit where it came from though.

No, not a meteorite. In-fact, I am 95% sure that your rock is iron ore. Are some parts of it kinda oily looking, creating a mother-of-pearl type of rainbow sheen? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_ore
Google some meteorite photos, you will see how wrong you are.
If it is ore, it has obviously been through a decent amount of heat! Usually when metal ore is melted naturally it becomes a lot more porous in its final appearance due to being squelched in cold liquid, that one is pretty holey but not bad actually!
I find them a lot on this old(ancient!) unused railroad track I know that hasn't been used since the 30's. They used to melt down and pour their giant metal track spikes as they went, thus Iron ore scattered around at random. When I first found them, I figured the same thing. These must be alien rocks!!!! Took them to a geologist at the University here, and they turned out to be Iron ore.
If you know anything about Scoria, it looks a lot like it went through a similar process. It may be a piece of Scoria that had iron ore in it when it was fused. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoria
