Type of Music

Most of the shroom experiences I've had involved extremely ambient music with little or no beat. I've read a couple cases where the sound of a deep bass or particularly hard-hitting percussion caused some to experience a bad trip. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I listen to a lot of electronic music and was wondering whether or not I should stay away from the more percussion-based ones. Thanks.

I don't think they'll induce a bad trip... just don't listen to something like System of a Down

I personally couldnt find anything more unappealing to listen to while on mushrooms, than electronic music. Shrooms are natural, bring most closer to nature, and themselves...organic music goes with them well. A strong natural beat (drumming) can get very intense, but synthetic sound grosses me out.
I was listening to "Drums and Tuba" on DMT yesterday and it was a good selection, Les claypool and the frog brigade is always a winner. String cheese incident, old Pink floyd (Atom heart mother), The doors are preferable for the afterglow, fleetwood mac, tom petty, cat stevens....
The above doesnt give you too much to go by....I definately find a strong beat to be a boost to an experience...but i usually drum on my leg, or a drum, or bucket, or ground....or whatever.

Yeah, I agree with you about the synthetic stuff.... most of what I listen to, while not necessarily being composed of "organic" instruments tends to sound more organic... definitely not any of the raver/house trash.

I wondered if you guys know some 'indian-like' music... I mean, really numb and smooth melody, preferably not with an indian guitar(sitar?).
Just some soft sounds fading out as if you were tripping to some place and those sounds passed by..

I said it in another music-related thread, but I'll say it again here. I'm a Goa DJ and producer. I'm an avid Goa addict. I love it. Yet, when I would trip on shrooms, no style of music sounded good to me. I only prefered tripping on shrooms in complete silence and natural sounds; whether it was indoors or out. My favorite outdoor shroom experience would simply be dosing around 11pm at night, going out in the back yard or the field adjacent to the house with a big blanket, sit out and meditate til I peaked, then just lay down and be one with the night. Got to see some great shooting stars while peaking...star gazing on shrooms is simply amazing.
Now, if we're talking LSD or weed, give me the headphones!! But when it came to shrooms, silence and natural ambience was what I enjoyed the most...specially at high level doses.

I second the recommendations of Shpongle and Negativland - make sure you get the albums and not just a collection of random crappy-quality mp3s

I got the first Shpongle CD I think for my first trip. 'Are you Shpongled?' Is this a good one or should I have gotten the other one they have, 'Tales of the Inexpressible'? What will this do to me exactly when I am tripping?

I prefer their first album when it comes to trips. The first album is a bit more out there, and warped than the second one. The second album is more upbeat. You'll love it. It can get intense at times.

my friend put on atom heart mother while we were tripping yesterday, and I told him he was crazy for putting on that "shark attack music." I have listened to the AHM suite maybe 50 times, and I love it, but on shrooms I hated it, and didn't even recognize it. Pretty weird. Incidentally, "Let It Be" by the Beatles was the funniest, cheesiest song I'd ever heard. Its weird how my taste in music changed so much. I'm listening to let it be right now, thinking its such a beautiful song, but on shrooms it was just absurdly overdone and silly.

Psilocybe is an extremely high-tech engineered species. Much of the music one hears through 3rd ear on a 5g trip sounds like 23rd century Techno. imo, Shrooms LOVE electronica and can't wait for us to discover Holophony.
They really dig Organic/Electronic like Forest For The Trees, Mickey Hart, Disco Biscuits, Sound Tribe Sector Nine, Perfume Tree, etc.

>>I got the first Shpongle CD I think for my first trip. 'Are you Shpongled?' Is this a good one
Of the two albums, it's the "trippier" of the two. I actually enjoy the second one more because of the wider range of musicality and maturity of the songs...but for a great psychedelic experience...the 1st album is a great way to go.
>>What will this do to me exactly when I am tripping?
It'll make you hear yourself tripping while you're tripping.
PDU: What's so "offensive" about Shpongle? They're simply recreating a lot of the effects that psychedelics have on the mind. To hear those same effects while tripping are doubly-enjoyable.

Shpongle is one of the best things to listen to on shrooms, without a doubt. I also like rave/house/trance/euro but that's just because I am who I am, and I have my own tastes. some AMAZING Sphongle songs are: Shpongle - Divine moments of truth Shpongle - Behind closed eyelids Shpongle - Dorset Perception Shpongle - Monster Hit
Some nice trance: Infected Mushroom - Radioactive Rain Infected Mushroom - Waves of Sound Astral Projection - Burning Up Armin van Buuren - Eternity (Also teh Tiesto mix is good) Ocean Lab - Clear Blue Water
That's just to name a few. If you want a list, or more, PM me, I'll be glad to send you some of my playlists. I'm just wondering if anyone can help me out with this question. Is Shpongle and Infected Mushroom the same person? I didn't think so since I got a Shpongle vs Infected mushroom mixing live, but my friend said they're the same person, anyone know for real? Also I find classical guitar VERY relaxing, and I'm never in a bad mood when I listen to it sober. I've got to try it on shrooms some time.
