Paralinguistic Communication
    #1651578 - 06/21/03 06:45 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Sometimes when tripping peoples body language seems to be overexaggerated. I wondered whether this was due to them tripping or the way Im perceiving them. Example: a female friend was very feminine in her pose, much much more than normal, it was almost stereotypical.

Im not entirely sure what Paralinguistic Communication and thats kinda why im making this post.

I was on a small dose of mushrooms one night and was chatting with a female friend... I thought was being very sujestive in what she was typing, and so was I in my answers. In reality we were talking about what we had done that day etc, but I could see another level of conversation where we were discussing something quite different.

I belive Paralinguistic Communication is a language that is read by tone of voice and body language etc, but I belive that it is simply in the words used. Recently I have noticed this in everyday life, I will say something to someone, and realize I just said something completely different, it is more obvious when joking around, like when talking randomness for the humour of it.

maybe the lnaguge with body language and tone is much more an expression of how one feels. "this is how I feel" basically, but in words it is communication back and forth.

hope this makes sense

Interesting. And maybe we are fully aware (on a "higher" level) of what those other meanings are. Our higher selves communicating to each other. What we comprehend at the conscious level is actually just a filtered down version of the true communication. The intent of the word is what is being recieved in all cases.

Hmmm.

that's very interesting, especially the exaggerated feminine pose thing when you're tripping. I've noticed that too. I think hallucinations are in part a projection of archetypes.

There is no spoo.... uh... higher level.

There is no need for a hierarchy. More awareness is just that. What you do with it is what is important. Still no need for "levels" or whatever, though.
