Growing Psilocybe Galindoi 3
#16513052 - 07/11/12 05:26 AM (12 years, 6 months ago) |
|

Hi everyone, this is my first post in Shroomery, I grow Shrooms since 2008 and like it a lot.
So I growed 4 different species of Psilocybes, most Cubensis. this is my first attempt growing ATL on compost/straw, with a layer of earth/Vermi.
The little casing was put a bit earlier in the fruiting box, so that the pinset is not optimal, the bigger ones show a better pinset (sorry for bad pics and my english).

So, second flush little casing, first flush big casing, lighter to compare. I think the first ones will be harvested and printed tomorrow, from the first flush I got around 10 really good prints.

There are no real differences in growing them, I just let a jar of rye colonize, bulk it in straw/manure and put it in a casing and let hem fruit under the same temperature and humidity as cubes, but they tend to build sclerotias and tend to be a bit more potent than cubes.

Does the mycelium turn into the sclerotia? Like I am wanting to know massive information. Where did you learn all that? I am entirely intrigued.

My experience is, that not realy the mycelium, but the rye gets formed to sclerotia by the mycelium. For eyample, when i opened the mycobag with straw/manure I couldn't find much more then 6-7 sclerotias, but when I harvest a jar with pure rye I find around 20, bigger sclerotias. But to add, the P. Atlantis strain is not the best sclerotia building strain, if you want some big truffles you should better grow P. Tampanensis or P. Mexican a/Jalisco.
I am now for around 3 or 4 years a member in a german Psilocybe board and learned a lot by myself, try and error, Paul Stamets Psilocybes of the world and other sorces like shroomery or some few from wikipedia.

I have heard that sclerotia is 2/3 less potent than the mushrooms themselves. Can you confirm? (IE have you gotten your own batch of both and tried them?)

There's no P. atlantis strain. P. atlantis is a species. What you're growing there is not P. atlantis, but Psilocybe galindoi. And it's a hell of a great sclerotia producer and easy to fruit as well. P. tampanensis and P. mexicana/Jalisco are both inferior sclerotia producers. Here's some info about them: A Comprehensive Sclerotia Cultivation Guide - From Spore Print To Spore Prints (VER 1.0)

Holy crap I am having an information orgasm right now!
Did you get your ATL#7 spores off a vendor or else where? They are the spores next on my list that I am going to try. I have been wanting to try sclerotia forever but I thought it only came from Amsterdam. How short sighted is that? Haha!

Sorry for terminology, my english is, as said, not the best;)
And weird, my results are others, that my Atlantis is Galindoi is good to know.

The Substrat layer is around 4cm, the casing layer is as thin as it was possible, still covering the substrat, I think around 1cm.

It is P. galinoi (ATL#7)
Galindoi (ATL#7) and Atlantis are two different things
The ATL part is because it was found in Atlanta, Georgia USA.
Here's a good thread to see the differences

Ok, thank you.
I cased them just like they came out the mycobag, 70/30 manure/straw. They are fruiting in a little chamber where 2cm water covers the bottom, nothing more, standing around in my room.

There was some confusion with an early specimen, it was mis-identified. Ps atlanta is a real species but it's not commonly cultivated. ATL 7 is a strain of Ps galindoi that is quite popular with home cultivators.

I thought it was still debated what species it was, and that it was only "similar to Ps. Gallindoi" but there was a difference in the shape of the spores?

Galindoi and Atlantis are different species, ATL#7 is a strain of Galindoi, as Doc said, and as it could be read in StoneSuns thread.

Right, we call it Gallindoi, but I thought that was just to make things easier, and that it was still debated as to exactly what it is?

Yes.
The misunderstanding is ATL#7 was confused with Psilocybe atlantis for some time.
ATL#7 is a "strain" of Psilocybe galindoi.

But at least Ps atlantis is a real species. Some of the sclerotia vendors sell products with made up names like Ps hollandia, Ps mckennaii, Ps pajaritos, etc. All these are most likely to be Ps mexicana or Ps galindoi.

Some of you asked about my fruiting chamber, so I chose to post phpotos of two of them, their are build very simple, but they do their job.
to hold humidity I put around 2liter water in it.

Unfortuneately flys have settled on my two big casings... I think I will harvest this 2cond flush and throw the big ones away.

The P. Gaindoi isn't this difficult to grow, for good sporing fruitbodys you just need to mix manure/poo to the substrat. Also they doesn't like it to wet and thats it;) But I would guess that for a better pinset you let them grow more through the casing layer than you let cubes.

it could be a couple of things , one the classic is not enough light and two a humidity problem, this are a bit more sensitive to fluctuation than cubensis usually stable RH means high CO2 in those kind of chambers so you ll get long stems

I think too that it's the Co2 or humidity thing, because the stems were not really thin, the 5 from my little fruitbox have the same diameter.
Also I think that the substrat was a bit dry to the end, I will see what the next flush brings.
Edit: The problem with the printable cap seems to appear on substrates with no manure in it. On pure seed/rye I never got such beautifull caps.

Thanks for the insight. I am indeed using straight cased rye. I'll have to try a batch with manure.

Looks great, but they have a different appereance than mine. That's something that I recognized when beginning to put manure in my substrat, also Cubes tend to have a bit different appereance grown on manure as grown on rye single, also it is the same strain.

This is my best tub. I have some caps that are big enough for prints, but the spore load is ALMOST non-existent. Is this common for straight-cased rye?

Common in my experience. I never got nice fruits out of straight rye. To get better prints you may have to let them grow a bit longer then usual and with the 2/3 flush will grow bit bigger fruitbodys, but if you want realy nice prints use some manure, just my experience.

Ive checked the "Bulks" I started last WE. And I can say everything looks fine till now. Both bulks were start with the rest of harvested glasses. And both bulks were started with a Strawpellets/Horsepoo-mix. One in a growbag, which shows very good mycelgrowth and the other from the rests of a bigger "Cucumber"glass, which contains three over ten gramms stones and more, which I started like a Cubensisbulk in a Monotub. The second one seems to be very fit too. We`ll see.
On ZPF too.

Hallo,
Your grows all look awesome. I´m definitely gonna try one of the stone producing species someday. But because i´m just starting growing (1st grow running,"Amazonian") i´ll stick to Ps.Cubensis for while. Great thread and pics.

Are they the coffee-pimped glasses?
Broke them up! They are ripe! quasi
By the way, this genetic came original from MRCA labeled as "P. atlantis".
And in my ZPF-growlog I already said/wrote that this shut be Galindoi aka ATL7.
It is a nice isolate of P.galindoi or it comes from a nice isolate. Maybe the good work of MRCA.

Jea it was labeled as P. Atlantis and these are coffeepimped rye glases, but it is multispore srynge injected, I will let them grow at least for 2 weeks, tehre is massiv more potential in it!
