Look what grew from a woodchip: Psilocybe subaeruginosa indoor grow * 2
    #16193524 - 05/07/12 04:13 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Hi all,

Just to see how it would go, I picked up a colonised woodchip from near my workplace last year, in a landscaped bed where Psilocybe subaeruginosa have been growing for some years. I popped it into some hydrated beech woodchips (Chipsi Extra pet bedding) in a small jar, and when that was fully colonised I used it to spawn a take-away food container.

Long story short, I ended up moving house and the take-away food container sat in a storage unit since early summer. Luckily it didn't dry out too much, because when I unpacked all my stuff, the tub was pinning!

I rigged up a quick and dirty fruiting chamber with a plastic box and perlite, and here is the result: Psilocybe subaeruginosa indoor grow, the no-care system

Hey Tas75,

Nice Pics, I was wondering how this container is doing now?

Okay, fellow scientists. This is a 10 year old thread. My man is fruiting subs indoor, and there are only 5 replies?!

Tell us more, Tas75! I know you are still around coz I found this threat via the official woodlovers thread...

It's an old thread indeed!

It wasn't hard. My recollection is that I collected a colonised piece of blackberry stem that had a sub coming out of it and was pretty clean, because it was in moss.

I think I stuck it in some pasteurised small woodchips, the brand was something like Chipsi Extra, which at the time were for sale in PetBarn, and I seem to recall they are European hardwood chips. Because there was no soil, I got a pretty clean culture growing in the woodchips, and then I forgot about them, sitting in a cupboard, after moving house. So a bit of a neglect tek!

I was cleaning old stuff from the cupboard a few months later and I noticed that there were pins in it, and those shrooms grew from those pins. In hindsight, they look like they didn't get enough FAE.

The main trick is probably that they were sitting in the cupboard of an unheated, south-facing room that got pretty cold. If I tried this today, I wouldn't do it indoors, though. But it certainly can be done.

Nice, Tas75. Did your chips/tray fully colonize before you forgot about it?

How long was it between when you last misted the grow and the moment you noticed the pins?

Also, how much time had passed between when you started the chip tray and the pins?

No, I never misted. I vaguely recall boiling the chips briefly and then straining them, so they were well hydrated.

They would have been only partially colonised before I moved house and forgot about them. I would have started the chip in fruiting season (May or June) and the photo is from May 2012, so a year would have passed.

Cheers, Tas75. Good stuff here...

Obviously, we all wanna try and make this happen in summer. No point fruiting indoor during the season. But, yeah, just the fact that it can be done is encouraging...

I'm sure the drop in temperature in autumn was the trigger... one could probably replicate it in the fridge.
