stick cake in the fridge?
    #1649062 - 06/20/03 07:08 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

is it ok- if after my first flush if i put the cake in a plastic container and sit it in my fridge for about a week until i come back in town, i know i can do this while its colonizing but i was wondering after a first flush- if i cleared it completely before putting it in the fridge-also would this effect the 2nd flush or could it just fuck everything up....

yeah you need to pick everything off b4 you put it in, im skeptical of this working.

il tell you what, heres what you do: toss that cake, or put it in the fridege and see if its ok when you get back. and make another jar and innoculate it, by the time you get get back it will be half way done. you know what, just do a shit load of jars b4 you leave.....

so its not a good idea to have it in the fridge for 7 days after you have already birthed it and its already produced mushrooms, i was told that if it was 100 percent colonized and i put it in there the mycelium would hybernate till i got back then it would be fine again, is this not true for cakes that have already been birthed?

Well it's worth a shot...keep it in a container to keep any contams floating around the fridge off the cake...but don't suffocate the mycellium either.   The worst thing that you'll do is kill the cake.  If you just harvested, I would dunk the cake in the fridge for 12 hours then just put it back in to your terrarium.  If you stand the chance of losing the cake by sitting in the fridge for seven days, wouldn't you rather come home to a second flush of shrooms on the cake?

Good luck...and just remember...you can always make more cakes.

Love & Light,

Boppity

would i be better off- say my jars are fully colonized in 4 days, if once they were i put them in the fridge for prob about a month then birth them then- or would i be better off going ahead and birthing it and sticking the cake in the fridge after a flush or two
