    #1647670 - 06/20/03 08:53 AM (20 years, 9 months ago)

My cos is going going out of town for a week. Hew has several cakes with small pins on them. Will they be OK when he comes back? There is perlite and and an air bubbler in the terr.

The mushrooms might over mature and drop spores on the cake creating a bedding for contams.

The main concern I would think is the lack of air exchange.
I do not think that his mushrooms will do very well with all the co2 build up.

Good luck to him though.

Peace

So, the bubbler is not enough to exchange all the CO2? Is there any chance the mushrooms will rot?

Try putting the cakes on a wire rack or screen. Elevate them as high as you can in your terrarium (leave some room for mushroom growth). CO2 is heavier than air and will settle to the bottom. This may help some. I dont believe spores dropping on the cakes should be much of a problem as long as you dunk or rinse after you harvest.

It is my understanding and a good friends practice that the bubble stone is NOT enough. My friend still fans his fruiting chamber at least three times a day.

I am not sure if they will rot, I assume that it depends on how much Co2 build up is in your chamber. I am leaning twords yes they will rot, but it is better to get an answer from one of our prominant cultivation members.

I hope all turns out fine.

Peace

i had, them same situation once, I had 4 cakes pinning and had to leave for 5 days, I was using perlite, and came back to lots of big tangled shrooms. I have never found perlite to cause to much of a CO2 bulidup problem.

not if the air pump doesn't provide 2-3 exchanges per hour.
they could rot if you left em for long enuf.

The bubbler will be fine it?s the basis of how this system works.

Poorman?s Pod Your only concern is that they are going to mature before you return. Simple solution pull off the pins or if you?re really worried take off all the pins and put the cakes in the fridge untill you get back. When you get back dunk them and put them back into the chamber.
