Yeah. You can also read them off a smartphone, if you already have one.

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. Also he got a race car. Is any of this getting through to you?

That cheap kindle does indeed suck ass. Navigating the menu with those physical buttons and calculator text was just fucking awful.

I bought a Kindle a few months ago, and love it.
You can torrent books, but most of them tend to be in pdf format, or maybe epub, whereas Kindle needs the .mobi format.
So, you need to download Calibre and use this to convert to .mobi format.
Then just copy your .mobi files onto your Kindle via USB.
You can also email books to the Kindle.

do u mean the kindle blocks an ebook from being viewed if in fact it doesn't have encryption. Coz I've found tons of nonencrypted e books. but what if the kindle is looking for an encryption of the book as some sort of key to prevent piracy. that would really stink I'd like a cheap one...
cant afford ipads and galaxys whatevers...

Biffzilla, I have hundreds of books on my kindle. I've never encountered a problem with encryption, and have never purchased an eBook from Amazon.
Plus, the great thing I like about the kindle is the battery charge lasts for weeks.
Also, check out Instapaper. If you are reading online content, you can send the web page from your browser to your kindle in one click, then read on your kindle later. Very cool.

What about pdf files? I've heard they display kinda funny on a kindle.
If kindle can display pdf's, I'll be all over it once a color e-ink version is released.

PDF files do not display well. However, they can be converted to .mobi using Calibre.

I got a kindle a few months ago. I DL all my books from torrent sites and transfer them to my kindle. The only real difference is that sometime the audio playback function that will read the book to you, doesn't work. OTher than that most the books I upload are PDFs and they work just fine. I enjoy the kindle cause I travel a lot and it allows me to bring multiple books without making my suitcase heavy. I'd recommend it if you enjoy reading/read a lot.
