Hi, I was wondering about misting. I've heard never to mist the cakes so do I mist the sides of the terranium, the perlite or both? I know it needs to get kinda foggy (humid). Thanks , any suggestions or help would be coo.

The purpose of misting is to prevent cakes (or casing) from drying out. As long as the humidity in your terrarium is pretty high, the cakes won't dry out, as the air won't absorb anymore water. However, if the rh is a bit lower, the air might absorb some more moisture, and the cakes start drying out. You can halt this effect by spraying a very fine mist over the cakes. This will not damage the mycelium, as long as there are no big droplets of water lying on the cake. In my setup, misting the cakes isn't necessary, as the rh is quite high as a result of the perlite humidifacation.

Read this - http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=Forum2&Number=639901&fpart=&PHPSESSID=

Basically large droplets of water can "seal" the mycelium making it hard for the pins to develop. AFOAF doesn't spray at all. Perlite and distilled water do the trick just fine:) But if you do spray don't spray directly onto the cakes.

Have fun.
