Macaroni as a substrate

Has anybody used boiled macaroni as a substrate? I'm trying it now just to see if it'd work. I'm hoping it will ...
Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

Based on the things I have cultivated in my refrigerator,I think that pasta is very receptive to mycelum. Were you going to use it to innoculate something else,or try to case it and fruit it?

I was making mac and cheese last night and had this exact same thought. Let us know how it goes. %)

Substances like pasta and beans are not recommended as they become thick and 'gummy' when cooked which hinders mycelium growth, which is why we add vermiculite (other than the water holding properties) to the brown rice flour or use whole grains.

That's right. Macaroni and other pastas (as I consider macaroni an unedible substance, using it for growing shrooms might give it a purpose after all. Of course, fussili, tortellini, spaghetti, tagliatella etc. etc. are the REAL pastas, and they DO deserve my respect ) have the nutrients needed for shroom cultivation. The problem is the sogginess, which prevents proper air and water migration through the substrate, resulting in a cake that probably won't colonize at all. If you insist on using pastas, I'd suggest you crumble the pasta to little pieces, add about as much vermiculite as pasta and some water, and sterilize the whole bunch in PF jars. Just don't forget the pasta will expand a bit when it soaks up water. This procedure should give you a very usable substrate, which is airy enough for mushroom cultivation.

Just don't overcook the pasta before you put it in the jars. It should probably still be firm. Be sure to drain it well first too.
