Science, Paranormal and usefulness
    #1645824 - 06/19/03 08:19 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

My understanding of Science is that it's a model
for understanding our environment for the purpose
of being able to predict (which results in an
increased ability to survive).
For all the Paranormal experiments out there -
some of which are incredibly convincing - I guess
the acid test of the existance of such activity/ability
is whether we can use reliable, repeatable methods
to make useful predictions. I guess this is why
Astronomy is considered a science and Astrology isn't.
I'm curious if there is any paranormal activity/ability
which is extremely difficult to explain with current
scientific theories, but which appears consistantly
and accurately under rigerous scientific proceedures.
Having said that I'll be leaving town presently... the S&P
forum is getting hostile

btw, the "Scole Experiement" listed in a thread here a short
while ago, was the most convincing and authentic evidence
I've seen of paranormal activity but it's not repeatable
(I think they said something along the lines of "the
spirts backed out of the experiment", so they' couldn't repeat it).
