^ Meams honestly man your going to lose a lot of muscle with that diet if you stick with it for more than a week.  I don't know the macro calculations off the top of my head but there are nowhere near enough calories/protein to sustain muscle on that diet, soup for dinner? Tofu with a few spoons of rice?  What?????  Reading that made me cringe.  There is nowhere near enough protein and fats in there to make up for your severe lack of overall calories, unless you weigh 95lb.

I would suggest eating a lot of whole eggs with oatmeal in the mornings, almonds, pistachios, chicken sauteed in olive oil, more tuna, post workout meal with a portion of carbs (brown rice, sweet potato).  2 carb meals a day to keep the muscles full, you can drop to 0-1 if you want to go straight keto, but thats another animal in itself and a pretty big decision to make.  Meal timing doesn't matter as much as most people think, its pretty much irrelevant.  Its all about calories in vs. calories out.  6-meals a day, 1-meal a day, IF all work, its just about getting your cals in before your body goes to sleep to repair.  Greg Plitt sometimes only eats one bigass meal a day and he's the worlds top fitness model. IME You want to stay as anabolic as possible with these healthy fat rich foods on a cut, or your gonna just get skinny as hell, stripping away any muscle you may have made previously,

Yeah - i know it's not nearly enough food.  I realize i'll be losing muscle.

But priority right now is comfortably fitting in the clothes I wear for 40 hours a week.

I'll throw in more protein to make it my primary sector of nutrition - but i'm not going to be eating tons of food.  Don't worry - I realize i'll experience some losses.  I will likely only be maintaining this "hardcore" of a cut until this coming sunday.  By next week I should be down a few lbs and can start eating normal amounts of HEALTHY food, which will get me back on track.

The problem was that my girl was about to leave for a month (we live togetheR) and we were essentially just indulging for the past two weeks.  FOod, alcohol, everything.

This food cut is my "overcorrection" to the hypothetical "swerve" i've made in my diet (to pull a driving parallel to my eating situation)

Bench is one of the best weight lifting exercises there is...pretty much anything that works several muscle groups at once

So compound lifts? In my opinion bench is a great lift but one of the most destructive. Many people look at magazines and posters and think, "I want a nice chest like that guy." what people don't realize is that "that guy" has developed all his upper body porportionally with other compound lifts other than bench.

Bodybuilders and fitness models preach deadlifts, squats, and hips. Then develop the frontal upper body. The key to a great physique is the lower body building the upper into that. Most people now a days think opposite; I myself made that mistake and hbe paid for it.

Lah'Kesh

Bench can be quite destructive... not done right. There is actually a lot of technique to bench, in fact I went and got coaching and learnt I'd been doing it wrong for the past 5 years despite being able to bench 3 1/2 plates a side. My shoulder was having problems and ever since fixing my technique, has been fine all ready to do my first comp in a couple of months. But aside from technique, there are many other crucial factors to maintaining a healthy shoulder girdle, such as balance, rotator cuff strength, stretching and regular myofascial release...

But apart from all that, you mention bodybuilders and fitness models and relating bench to chest development? Different ball game mate, say for chest development, its all about maximal stimulation, exercise choice depends upon the individual and how they feel they can maximally stimulate the desired muscles. When talking in terms of the actual lift (such as bench press), sure it can build muscle but you can't say one exercise is better than another for muscle building, its all about whichever you feel stimulates your muscles the most. Powerlifting on the other hand is all about getting the weight from point A to point B, and bench press is compulsory haha. But all in all its a great standard all round exercise, I'm sure that point cannot be argued

I agree when done properly, its an awesome fully body exercies, problem is most people .dont do it right.  My bench always has sucked due to bad form.  I got up to 225ish...
I always get a better pump in my chest from deadlifting.  That is the lift that I see as the best all around lift.  Squatting after that.  Holding that bar path straight while squatting is a bitch... I can leg press 750+lbs, but when it comes to balancing the bar while in motion, I could only squat 225...

Ive been working out a little here and there.  getting back into it...

what happens when you continue working out, but cut your calories below normal levels?  I'm in dire need of fitting in my work clothes again.

will i lose lots of muscle?
how about strength?

2 weeks since I made this post.

Down 10 lbs.  Feels good.  I certainly lost some muscle, but i'm much more lean -- with a physique that I prefer.

Won't be doing the mass-eating-bulk phasing again... just too uncomfortable in my work suits.  I think I'm fine with the wirey-cut look.

Haha ^ love it.

How is everyone's lifting / life going??  I'm still lifting hard 4-5 times a week, eating a mostly good diet - doing the low carb thing, w/ small dose of EC on an 'anabolic diet' with cheat meals twice a week or so etc. Seeing great results this time around.  Have leaned up quite a bit yet retained strength, its awesome!  Hope everyone is doing well, having a great summer and lifting hard.  Lets get some updates in this thread!

Yeah doing my first powerlifting comp in August, have been cutting weight to get into the lower weight division (82.5kg) but after getting down to about 85-86kg and being fairly lean as is, thought fuck it, just stay and compete in the 90kg division, that way I can focus on improving my lifts at least a little, not long to go approx 8 weeks out and planning to throw a couple of deload/recovery weeks in there which only really gives me the chance to test out my maxes once before then. Wanna set myself up to hit PB's on comp day, as they say - PB's at the gym don't mean shit, its what you do on the platform

fuck I had to stop for a month... my job was trashing my joints, got so bad I couldn't even do a pushup, let alone bench press, without my elbows clicking popping and grinding, couldn't even do a bodyweight chin anymore without severe pain through my wrists, elbows and shoulders... not too mention I was just burnt the fuck out...

but, I got laid off a couple weeks ago, been back pretty much full tilt, joints feel sooo much better, I can lift without having to take anti-inflammatorys again ... and I didn't lose nearly as much strength as I thought I woulda...

never been happier to be unemployed

I'm about to go hit it in maybe an hour or so.  I've been stepping up the cardio and the recent goal has just been to get shredded.  Still love to push weights tho

How do you guys feel about the free motion / smith machine's ? I dont always have someone to spot me  and have had some pretty serious injury's to my knee / shoulder .

I know im not getting the best work out but I can differently do more weight.

Joined the gym in January after 8 years or so of not working out / opiate addictions. Shit was tough but im coming along nicely . 3 days a week :awesomenod:

Lost 20 lbs of fat and gain at least 15 lbs of muscle.

Lastly I have some internal problems with some of the protein powder anyone know of one thats more sensitive on the stomach?

I dont like flat bench press period it's too easy to do wrong.  I strongly prefer dumbell press and the hammer strength machine.  but listen to your body it will tell you what works and it's different for everybody

All three benches are critical for a well developed chest...also flys for width...I tend to avoid decline bench but I'm going to start doing it more often I focus on regular and incline.

Edit: I also read to avoid decline if you got man boobs but once u loose the fat you should start doing them. Flys help with man boobs alot too dumb bell or machine.
