It is a blackening Hygrocybe but for some reason was placed in a separate taxon, it is beautiful!

Nominated...
Great texture! Do they feel as sharp and spiky as they look?

That is an incredible mushroom! Probably the most interesting I have seen all year so far. Thank you for sharing

I post this here because this is my most recent post and the people I associate with on shroomery are usually in this forum, didn't want to start a separate remembrance post! My best friend was murdered on tuesday, the best skater I ever knew and a true legend, RIP, Dean Andrew Clark.

Thanks man, it is an awesome mushroom, not quite as awesome as my mate!
There is another variety that is a bit more robust and has yellow hues rather than red, the cap is not so conical! It is presumed to be just a variation but it would be interesting to see some DNA comparisons! http://mushroomobserver.org/22111?q=NDX6
Thanks sum0, it's extremely unfortunate and sad, I'm not really in a good frame of mind and have trouble wording my feelings:(

Thanks for posing this one Inski, they are starting to pop are here more often too it would seem, it was only that you had posted them on MO previously that I even knew what they were.
I am sorry to hear of your loss, it truly baffles me why we do the things we do.

That is terrible, talk about the roommate from hell...
"Dean was a really nice guy, he'd be like your brother or a family member. He was a really nice guy and he didn't deserve this."
The neighbour described Clark as "gentle-natured and really friendly".
"He had heaps of friends, there was always somebody knocking on his door."
